Do you think about where your swing finishes?

Like many golfers, I struggle with the outside to in swing. I've done everything I can you can with takeaway, tempo, and the downswing. Still struggle.

I watched a video with Morikawa and he says he really only thinks about how he finishes his swing for what ultimately determines his swing path. Obviously with finishing high for a more inside out. Well I tried this at the range and it was extremely effective compared to everything else I've tried to fix my club path.

Only if I’m trying to hit it low/punch out. I think about finishing low and left. Ironically these are usually the best contact and straightest balls I hit when I’m playing

I def think about it. It helps me a lot with releasing the club. If I’m not releasing it, I’m hitting it all over the place.

Swing path and club face at impact are the only things that make your ball travel the way that it does. That’s what I focus on continuously but I’m all for finding a swing thought to help you get out of a rut or find momentum in your game

Yea, but Morikawa also favors an outside in swing path

Yes, it’s how I don’t (or do) slice.

Of course.

A high finish pitch shot is obviously going to fly higher then a pitch shot where the shaft is finishing just under your left shoulder from a down the line view.

I think it is extremely valuable to think of on every shot. If you try to finish high with the hands you will probably hit it straighter. Here’s why. If your hands are finishing just under or at your left shoulder for me down the line view... I think most people’s tendencies of how to get their are to whip their shoulders open. Once you whip your shoulders open first and know the hands follow you’re definitely coming outside to in and going to dusty wipe the ball.

It’s why Jack always said he tried to keep his back to the target as long as possible. If you fight this urge to spin open... which comes naturally when trying to finish with high hands... your body will stay closed more as your arms control the swing.

I try to focus on finishing high but letting the opening of my shoulders come from the momentum of my arms and hands after impact. Not opening the shoulders FIRST and having the arms follow. It’s a hard hard impulse to fight especially for someone who has always been a hit from the top impulse player.

I try to focus on keeping my right eye under my left eye during impact as my hands travel up.

I strongly recommend taking a lesson from
A pga pro rather than listen to what a tour player says. That would be like listening to what Jordan thinks on a jumper and trying that.

It's not some insane concept that's used to squeeze the extra 1% out to be the best in the world. It's a simple swing thought that is common.

What he is thinking and what you need to be thinking are certainly not the same. I would be willing to bet there isn’t a single similarity: body type, swing speed, height, athletic ability etc. reading golf instruction in an magazine or online keeps teachers in business.

Jokes on you, we are the same height and weight

It objectively helped me change my swing path and I've had a much better ball flight since i did it. It's ok to try different things. Its not like its some super specific tactic.

I like to focus on the position of my Right elbow. If your right elbow stays close to your right side it leads to a lot of good habits. I have the dreaded habit of a flying right elbow and this helps me keep my swing on plane and somewhat limit the length of your backswing also. Let’s face it we are all looking for the magic bullet in golf.

exactly, I think we all have one/two swing thoughts that for whatever reason help put our swing together.
