I believe the USGA switched it a couple of years ago and made single rounds invalid towards your official handicap.

How do people that don’t play with others get a handicap?

I normally play with a group and need to officially establish a handicap through GHIN.

Sorta. I play fairly frequently with people, but I don’t know them. So technically I’m solo, but I count everything that isn’t a scramble

I rarely play alone, but when I do I usually hit two shots each time and treat more as practice... Biggest fear of playing alone is finally getting an ace and there's not a soul around ..

If I play, I put it in.

I rarely play alone so it has not come up in a few years. Played a few holes alone yesterday, then guys ahead of me asked me to join them.

If people are going to be dishonest, the presence or absence of another golfer will not stop them. Sandbagging and vanity handicaps exist. I post scores mostly so I can see how many rounds I played in a year.

1. Sign sign up for GHIN.
2. Play alone.
3. Post score.
4. Don't care what the USGA thinks.

I play alone at least half the time but play it down. There's also zero reason to lie about your score if your wanting to play in tournaments using it. All lying on your scores/handicap does is get you in a more difficult field of competitors that are more than likely to beat you or you don't get the amount of adjusted strokes you actually need.

No. If I’m alone, I almost always hit a few extra shots and putts. There’s no pressure of playing with others so people will generally score better. The reverse baggers love to post these scores though.

How many? I counted back on mine and I logged 77 rounds. Had probably another 25-30 scrambles or team matches we play on Wednesdays

The greatest golfers of all time in no particular order:

1. Tiger Woods
2. Jack Nicklaus
3. Your buddy who cards a round by himself.

162 logged in 2024.

Several scores are 9 holes.
I played in scrambles, shambles, and spinner 9s(we use an app to select color of tee)

So I probably played 200 days out of the year.

Yes, I enter my scores, all of them unless it's some sort of practice round with multiple balls being played or some sort of scramble / game that doesnt really equate to a score.

I count almost all rounds, unless the course is in terrible shape or the wind is howling like it has been lately. I have no business playing in 30mph gusts, but I do it anyway.

I feel like if you play 100% legit to the rules, you can count it. Just because you playing with a group of guys doesn't make it any more official. And are you using that handicap for official tournaments or for weekend scrambles?

Low scores, no. High scores, yes.

I used to play solo all the time. I'd head to the course in mid-afternoon when it was wide open and could get 18 in in 2.5 hours. As long as you're not cheating, why wouldn't you count rounds by yourself towards your handicap?

Its technically against the rules:

quote:

A score is acceptable for handicap purposes if the round has been played:

quote:

In the company of at least one other person, who may also act as a marker (subject to satisfying any other requirements of the Rules of Golf),

Any rounds not played with someone are not supposed to be counted.

Makes zero sense.

quote:

2.1a/1 – Scores Not Acceptable for Handicap Purposes
