Folks, my family is headed to the beach at the end of the month. My dad and I will get away for a couple of rounds. I know the course scene pretty well. We've been going down to that area for 20 years.

The last two times we've gone down, we've played a familiar course with horrendous greens at the time. Regatta Bay's were borderline unplayable in 2023, and Windswept Dunes were awful last summer. I've played both in very good condition over the years which made both surprising.

I'm looking for perspective from folks that have played in Destin over the last 6 weeks or so if possible. Anywhere we should avoid? I'm looking at:

Kelly Plantation
Regatta Bay
Raven
Windswept Dunes
Emerald Bay

It doesn't have to be Augusta, but we don't want to be playing Plinko from 8 feet.

KELLY- I've played Kelly Plantation so many times with my brother and dad when I've gone down there and it's always in good shape. I have never played it and been disappointed. the green fees are steep sometimes, but I typically have my home course's golf pro contact them and get a discounted rate.

Never played regatta

RAVEN- It was an absolute pleasure to play last time I was there, they had just had a ladies professional event there the week before and the course was immaculate. I would play it again even at $150+++

WINDSWEPT- I played windswept dunes on my way back from the PGA Show in January and it was in phenomenal shape considering it was winter time. I would go back, i 'wasnt too impressed with their range though. They didn't overseed the range tee so it wasnt the best hitting area, not really something to complain about though.

Never played Emerald bay

Indian Bayou- never played it but heard it's always fantastic

BURNT PINE- You didn't mention this one but it's a private course in the subdivision near raven and the other courses, but back to mentioning your home courses head pro... he contacted them for us and we were able to go out there and play. Was an amazing facility and they were very hospitable.

DONT PLAY BAYTOWNE

I just got back from Destin. I played twice.

Indian Bayou and Regatta are both in great shape.

I’ve never had a bad experience at Windswept, but I think I’m going to give Indian Bayou a try this time around since it’s so close to my condo.Heading there the last week in June, so I’m also interested in the current conditions of the course.

I’ve played most of them.

Kelly - always immaculate. Ice cold apples on #10 Tee hit the spot. We did have an issue with a marshal up our arse for no reason last year. Never mind it was 2 groups in front of us that was the problem.

Regatta - Nice course after the renovation. When I played it was hot as hell and soft from recent rain. Only way to play it at an affordable price is to tee off after 10 am which is suicide in the summer. In my opinion it’s not worth the $200 for an early morning tee time. Course employees were great though. Constantly bringing you cold towels.

Emerald Bay - I’ve thought about booking here multiple times, but I read some reports that the bugs are horrendous on that course and it’s like playing in the middle of a plague.

Indian Bayou - really fun track. Best value of the good Destin courses. Course employees were great. Greens were immaculate. Would play again anytime

Raven - ive kept an eye on Raven for several years and finally going to play it next week when we’re down there.

Windswept - never played it

Seascape - the City Park of Destin, minus the historical part

Kelly Plantation - Played early May and it was in great shape. Also played in 2024 and it was fantastic then as well. It's more expensive than probably all the others except for Regatta, but it's a nicer course than the others and Regatta. If you're going to spring on only one $150+ round then I'd definitely do Kelly over Regatta

Windswept Dunes- Played in 2024 and enjoyed the heck out of it

Indian Bayou- Played in 2024 and enjoyed it as well

The Links- Played a few times and it's always been in good shape, save for when they have done maintenance to the greens.

Regatta Bay- Played in early May and it was in great shape, save for the greens which had just been punched so they were slow.

Baytowne- was good for a cheaper price

Emerald Bay- Never played, but heard good things.

Seascape- Never played, but have heard it was horrible.

Regatta Bay is a great track. Been around 13 years since I played but a ton of fun.

I’m a member at emerald bay. It’ll rank 4th on your list after Kelly, regatta and raven. But best bang for your buck for price.

I like windswept but your looking at an hour each way travel time if you are in Destin.

I see someone mentioned bugs at emerald bay. Never had that issue.

My raincheck to Indian Bayou is good until 7/26. I'm still willing to give it to someone if they are going that way before then.

Thanks CHL. Put your return address on the envelope. I have a Challenge Coin from the Bomb School that is pretty cool.
