I’ve read different things.

I’ve read move ball up.
I’ve read move ball back.
I’ve read open the face of a less lofted wedge.

If the grass is short, I’ll just putt, but I need some sort of decent shot for when there is too much grass to putt.

All I know is I’m not proficient at this situation.

One of the toughest shots to get good at in the game.

I had success chipping with a weak grip and getting "flippy" with my wrists.

It helps me get the club to not dig in and avoid the chunk where the club stops and the ball goes about 8 inches.

Learn the bump and run with 7 iron thru PW.

It ain't sexy, but it's a hell of a lot more effective than chunking a 52 or 58 degree 18 inches and having to do the same thing over again.

eta: Agree with the toe down/heel up, more upright posture, putting stroke action as an effective method too, especially when short sided and can't afford the run out that comes with something like a 7 or 8 iron.

I don't know if this is right, but whenever I have any kind of unfavorable lie when chipping, I always go toe down chip.

1. Stand a touch closer to the ball

2. Get the shaft more vertical (heel of the club off the ground)

3. Use your normal chipping stroke

I'll "putt" with a fairway wood if I'm uncomfortable with a particular chip shot. It's boring and you'll get made fun of, but it's effective and extremely low risk.

It obviously doesn't work for situations where you have to carry a hazard.

Certainly a tough shot especially if its heavy grain or it's a close pin.

I normally go firm and dig into the ground a bit and not get much follow through. little mini punch shot. Closed faced.

Helps to have the right wedge.

Regardless of loft, opt for higher bounce, more toe relief, open face, toe down.

If you check all these boxes, you should have more success.

I’ll try to get the shaft more vertical by standing closer to ball.

I’m going to putt IF I can.

I may also try the 5 wood to putt with.

This video has changed my entire short game philosophy away from the leading-edge, hinge and hold method. This is much more forgiving if you aren’t perfect, you can play with more speed through the shot, (which is what you really need into the grain) and you’ll get more check when you’re short sided or the green is sloping away from you.

make sure you move your body "up" as you chip and not down.

all great chippers of the ball move there body away and up as they chip, all bad chippers move their body down and towards the ball.

That crazy South African guy that does YT videos from Asia gave this advice, "I used to use the heel up method, but I'm strictly a toe down guy now."

Thanks to all.

I experimented today.

Ball position back.
Crowded it.
Kept moving.

Seemed better.
At least I got the golf ball onto the green.
