I played Webb yesterday. They flipped the cups so the ball doesn't go all the way into the hole and they put trash bags over the ball cleaners.

It gave me vibes similar to when I worked at a golf course. Playing when there aren't a lot of people out. You can play 4 holes or 6 holes or 12 holes and it doesn't matter because it doesn't cost you anything. You feel more free to practice around the greens because you don't necessarily feel compelled by the few dollars you put on the counter to actually try and play serious. I probably got more out of the 9 holes I walked yesterday in terms of getting better than I have in any golf activity I've done in 2020.

Did anyone try walking Santa Maria yesterday? I’m still skeptical about being able to walk the course without getting in trouble but I’d like to play this afternoon

I walked right by the main girl in the way to 1 tee at Webb and she didn't say anything.

Just go do it. What’s the worst that could happen?

I got a message from the BREC superintendent that says:

quote:

just wanted you to know that you are more than welcome to walk the course at Santa Maria. The decision to close was to support the Governor’s decision to try and make an impact in flattening the curve over the next two weeks so we wanted to eliminate all contact with BREC staff including transactions for purchasing a round of golf.

Played SM yesterday. Decent amount of groups out there walking.

Also never seen so many people riding bikes on the cart paths.

Got this email from BREC yesterday so figured they closed up shop but I guess that’s just for personnel and not people playing the course.

Santa Maria was packed today. Push cart mafia in full force. Conditions were dry but still great. No tee markers was really nice cause you can just find the flattest spot on whatever tee box you usually play from. Also PSA: there's no water coolers so bring a cooler of water/beer to leave in your truck so you can restock after the front 9 and keep your water/beer cold without having to carry it all

That course can be a bitch to walk. Too damned far between holes.

As much as I would like to play beaver for free, thats just not a course I want to walk. Green to tee is brutal.

Jesus, how out of shape are you people that you can’t manage walking 100 yards between green and tee box? This is what’s wrong with America.

I can't argue that...I am not in the best shape of my life at the moment, but my problem is my feet. Damned plantar fasciitis has been acting up lately. I have walked Webb twice this week and both times my feet and calves felt like they were on fire after about 9 holes. I went today to get some new shoe inserts and I am going to test them out somewhere on a golf course tomorrow and hope for the best.

It’s like 5 holes that have extended walks. They’re all flat.

Some of y’all never grew up playing junior golf on hilly terrain courses and it shows.

I walked Beaver in May once and I carried my bag.
I doubt I would do it again, it was a hot mf that day.

I don’t have a push cart, so it makes a big difference walking while carrying.

Played Webb yesterday. Was great just being able to walk on for free. After 9 holes we ran up the street to a gas station to get some waters and cool off then just hopped back on 10 and played on. Course was in great shape. Finished on 18 and no one was behind us so we spent about 15-20 minutes practicing different shots from around the green. Only issue I saw in terms of course condition was that people aren’t repairing ball marks on the greens. Some of the par 3’s were covered in them. If they keep the course in similar condition I’ll be playing a lot of golf out there.

I may have played until dark had I had a push cart. Forgot how tiring carrying the bag for 18 was
