Dumas greens are better than Copper Mill greens. Kind of a moot point now since it’s only 9 holes while the renovations take place. But you can do a lot worse than Dumas (City Park, Webb).

I like the 6-6-6 layout at Copper.

That being said, I’m at Beaver before both of those.

Dumas was/is a horrible golf course that should have either been completely rebuilt or closed years ago. The fairways are common bermuda, not 419 or Celebration like every other course in town. There is no irrigation on tees on tees or fairways. The irrigation around the greens is like what I have in my yard.

The grass on the greens has been there since the 1960s. It's not like Tifeagle at Beaver Creek or MiniVerde at Santa Maria. All of the other local courses also have modern grasses. How could Dumas possibly compare favorably to any other course in the area?

All of these glaring deficiencies are dwarfed by the fact that it's flat as a pancake and one of the most poorly drained courses in Louisiana -- perhaps the world. I, for one, will be glad to see it go. Anything they build in it's place will be a definite upgrade.

You say that, but how confident are you that the new 9 holes will be better lol

So what grass do the greens at Copper Mill and Webb have? Because Dumas greens are better than both of those.

I won’t argue about their fairways. But the layout wasn’t horrible, although it may be nostalgia talking.

Should have done something like this. 12 really good holes, short course and a really good practice facility. Would have been a good use of the land, imo

I believe Dumas was originally a 9 hole course. You would tee off at the old clubhouse. It was a short 4. Two turned south along the highway and was a par 5. You eventually came back to the clubhouse and finished at the par 3.

The back nine was later. Different greens. It was a lot longer. You teed off in the old ten and went East. You eventually came back home and finished on a par five protected by water.

Greens were completely different as were the holes.

Whoopie, Brec ruins another golf course. After royally screwing up City Park, they’re after the rest now. Ughh.

Learned to play golf at dumas in the early 90’s. A lot of good times had there on the old layout. Didn’t care for the rebuild they did but didn’t play much there as an adult anyway.

Also two sets of tee boxes. There was a course like this (can’t remember the name) out by 30A, you just swapped tees and flags or the “backside” and it plays completely different

I wish somebody would explain to me why in the frick BR needs another 9 hole course.

Nobody I know goes to play just 9. You had the land out there for a big redesign and a chance for a 3rd top tier championship public course in BR, and they just said frick it let’s make it another 9.

Lazy man.

Because the market for golf in BR and Louisiana isn’t great. Corporate jobs are leaving or gone. You have LSU Sports. Hunting. Fishing. Travel Sports. And Abysmal weather.

Golf has been uninvestible in Louisiana for a long time.

People on this very board quibble about where the cheapest practice area is and lament how the place with their favorite price has terrible range balls.
