I'm talking about when someone drives the ball 200 yards and slices it off the planet, and the advice given to them is to just not play a driver and get better at short game. That player would 100% be better off learning to hit driver over almost anything else.
Yup. This was me. I couldn’t hit driver for the life of me so I would tee off with a 5 iron and get about 210 yards. Eventually I said frick it and need to get somewhat decent with my driver.
Now I’m a 13-14 handicap but have never broken 80. Even when I shoot low 80s, I’m going OB off the tee with my driver 3-4 times a round. It’s killing my scores.
Driver and putter are absolutely the most important clubs in the bag.

am not looking to argue about golf here. There are different strategies that fit different skill sets. But sounds like my skill set is different than yours and my game is where it should be at this time.
Yes it easier to hit a green from 150 than 180, but for my game it's just a different club with the same swing.
No offense, but you’re always going to suck at golf with this attitude.

What is your definition of sucking at golf? What type attitude are you referring to?

my driver is erratic and it's killing me - actually just booked a lesson.
For years I was a huge slicer/block due right guy. Then I started playing a lot and my driver became much more reliable - like I would hit 60-70% of the fairways I used it on. Lately I can't stop hooking the ball - so much that I have to aim far right and work it back in. Not sustainable, and doesn't work very well
My chipping was terrible for a long time but now it's the strength of my game. watched a Phil Mickelson video that completely changed my chipping.
