Anatomy of a DQ: Billy Mayfair broke two rules in seven holes. Then things got *really* weird

Mayfair gets DQed for taking 5 minutes to find a ball and then has another ridiculous cheating allegation where he tells an official he didn't cause a ball to move despite it being obvious he did on a telecast

Guys had cheating allegations follow him for years. This seems to somewhat confirm them imo

He comes off really bad here more from what he is saying after than what he actually did.

quote:

“What I always got from P.J. Boatwright was that the rules officials were always there to help the players, they were there not to call penalties on you, not just to try to get you disqualified,”

He seems to not grasp that by calling a correct penalty on him they are protecting 140 others.

yeah he looks terrible. Especially at the end of the interview where he actually tries to claim to have a called a penalty on himself.

Yeah that doesn't really work. "yeah, once I signed my card and the official drug me into the tv tent to watch the replay I decided that I caused the ball to move and I called the penalty on myself."

Odd explanation for an "if you don't take the penalty you will be DQ'd" situation.

I think he’s well known for being a cheat. I forget who, but one of the big tour stars did an interview and made comments about him, without naming him directly, but the reporter was able to pice together that it was Mayfair.

Same w/ Lexi Thompson. She gets caught red-handed and then bitches that meanies are out to get her. Nothing lower than a cheater at a tournament.

????? Are you talking about when someone called in on her miss marking her ball bu like 1/2 an inch causing her to lose the US Open?

That was ridiculous, doesn’t make her a cheater

Comparing Lexi Thompson to Billy Mayfair is an absolute joke.

Here's the thing about cheating: You gotta call out everybody.

Tiger cheated at Augusta a few years ago.

Rory improved his lie in a bunker, claiming he thought sand was a rock, just a few months ago.

Technically, they're cheaters

She moved it sideways right? Not closer to the hole? Was she avoiding a spike mark? The ones that now you are allowed to tap down?

No he didn’t

By his own words he admitted to it. He may not have purposely cheated, so perhaps it was an honest mistake, but he broke the rules and then signed what was an incorrect scorecard that should have disqualified him from the tournament. Augusta National showed a lack of courage by not disqualifying him from the tournament.

I repeat, perhaps it wasn’t intentional, but it was a rules violation.

That no one else in the field would have been allowed to get away with. That was my only problem with it. I didn't think Tiger was malicious, but anyone else would have been DQ'd
