To compare Baton Rouge and Greensboro demographics or LA vs NC as a whole is laughable. Greensboro is a short drive from Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Raleigh-Durham.

The problem is the amount of shitty public courses that resources are being wasted on. There are at least 3 BREC courses that need to be closed

Also should I as a tax paying resident of EBR get a discounted green fee at SM as compared to a non tax paying NO resident who comes down to play? I think YES. It’s ridiculous that Brec doesn’t have discounts for EBR residents

Also, North Carolina is a great golf state, while Louisiana is terrible

Yea, wasn't trying to make an apples to apples comparison with Greensboro. The 40 courses number just shocked me because it is so different than ours.
Growing up, there were just many more options in the city, and now we have lost a lot of those options. And I don't know why I'm acting like Santa Maria is "in town." Course is three steps from Prairieville.

Golf is a dying sport. The public courses can stay packed and still barely get by. They have to make their rates low enough to convince people to play.
I quit the game for good a few months ago. You can’t get a weekend round in where I live that won’t take nearly 5 hours. Factor in driving to and from the course, warming up, etc. I just don’t consistently have 7 hours to burn on chasing a ball around.

.you always brag about how much money you make, just join a club. If you're in Houston, you're almost guaranteed to be close to Shadow Hawk, Champions, Royal Oaks, Lochinvar or Carlton Woods. All of those courses are empty and can play in 3 hours.

Rounds by year per BREC (BR Biz Report)
2012 - 130k
2013 - 133k
2014 - 135k
2015 - 127k
2016 - 109k
2017 - 112k
2018 - 111k
We do not need new courses. BREC knows this. If you play only during peak times then you don't have a good view of golf in BR. Go to a course Monday through Thursday. Go to a golf course anytime from late September to Early March. The courses are empty.
BREC wishes they could close courses but they cannot figure out which group to piss off. The minorities near Dumas/Clark or the actual taxpayers near Webb/City Park.

Brec should dump a ton of money into Webb when it figures out which course to close.
Its in a pristine spot next to the garden district, Webb should be a great course IMO.

I completely agree. My personal opinion is they should close Dumas. I wish they would make City Park a badass Par 3 course and make Webb a cool track. If they are not going to do anything with City Park to make it cool then close it. It is a complete waste of space as is.

Absolutely not. Baton Rouge needs to reduce the amount of public courses it has by at least two.

Close Dumas and City Park, dump a ton of money into Webb and get it pristine with about a $40-50 green fee.

Bring the designer of Audubon and let them redo city park as a par three would be great. Web is fun. Just need better greens.

I still say there is enough land around Dumas & Clark that you could combine them into one 36 hole facility...or a redesigned 3 9’s...with a range and do a massive redesign and make it a viable option for BR golfers.
A course on the level of Webb won’t draw people out there. But it could be the only multi course facility in BR. Make one of the courses really nice with some work and build a decent clubhouse and they could have something.

Yep. BREC needs to get rid of one 18 hole and one 9 hole.
LSU is rarely discussed but I wish it would close over any BREC courses. Primarily because LSU will never do anything to make it better. Politically they cannot. I think there is a chance BREC will make courses better but LSU will not.

true, just get it to where you have really good grass and greens, actual sand in bunkers

If Webb was in pristine conditions it would be worth $40-$50 all day especially in that location.
You cannot say we need new courses then say you wouldn't even pay for a pristine one. There in lies the entire problem with golf in BR. It just isn't a priority for people. They want tee times during peak times only and want them for cheap and oh they want sand in bunkers and greens full of grass rolling a 12.

If Webb was in as good of shape as Carter, it would easily command similar prices just because of location.
