What's your thought on a good drive down the fairway, but there is a sprinkler head "affecting your stance" do you move it or play it?

Move it, as per the established rules of golf.
The two basic principles of golf are that you play the course as you find it, and you play the ball as it lies.
There are exceptions to this.
A fairway divot is NOT one of the exceptions.

Even the tourneys around here allow you to bump it. So yes bump it scorecard lenght

The part where your comment makes any sense.
I would imagine he means sometimes you hit bad shots and get good breaks and sometimes you hit good shots and get bad breaks. It's golf.
As often as this subject comes up on here you'd think it was happening multiple times a round for people. I've been playing golf for 25 years now and I honestly don't think this has happened to me more than a handful of times in my life and never once in a tournament.

Well it happens to pros a lot more because they’re a lot better at having their balls end up where they’re supposed to end up, so the ideal landing areas are going to have divots everywhere, especially once they’ve played the course for 4-5 days straight

Let’s say the USGA changes the rule and carves out an exception. Would you be ok with it? There are a lot of rules for bullshite relief IMO, far dumber than relief from a fairway divot, that already exist in the rules of golf. I don’t hear you bitching about those. The established rules of golf change all the time. A lot of people think this rule should also change.

I realize that

Last thing golf needs is another reason for pro golfers to call over an official and get a ruling to slow the round down even more, especially one that would have a lot of grey areas.

My thought is a divot is caused by humans just like ball marks and spike marks. Two of the three can be remedied.

I get it. I can't remember the last time it happened to me but I would imagine I bumped it out of the divot. If a pro could just walk up and bump it out of a divot I'd be all for it, seems like the fair thing to do. But that's not how it would work for them and it would just turn into a rule nightmare on tour imo.

Would be an absolute cluster frick trying to enforce that rule. No way it happens.
Easy fix, let your playing partner determine if you're in a divot and then drop the ball for you. The groups police themselves and pace of play stays up

That goes to my first comment in this thread. At what point does the divot cease being a divot and considered healed? That is the murky part for me.

Interesting…… so should we not repair ball marks on greens?
Are green divots and fairway divots the “same” and be treated that way?
As a weekend warrior, I will happily apply the Homa-ist philosophy and do whatever to make the game more fun.
IF I'm playing in a legit tournament, then the real rules would apply.

He is saying that if you get lucky on one shot and get to roll with it, then if you get unlucky on a shot you should have to roll with that too.

People should just repair their divots so we don't even have to have this discussion in the first place.

And furthermore why don’t they fix the divots???
Put some sand I them after they hit for the next group.

Are you playing in a USGA event?
Play it down.
$5 Nassau with friends?
Roll it, who cares.
