At what point in your round do you adjust your aim to your misses

Let’s say you are a draw hitter off the tee, drawing it nice on the range and feeling good.

You get up to #1, aim right edge of the fair way for your draw, but you fade it instead and are way off right. First hole, shite happens, move one

#2, same thing, Ball is way right again

#3, are you now playing for the fade and aiming left side of the fairway or are you trusting you wil draw the ball like you’re supposed to?

What if I happens again at 3?

I know none of us want to play golf swing instead of golf, at some point you’ve got to use the swing you have that day and adjust your plan accordingly, but when are you making the switch?

I adjust my swing, not my aim. I guess if you don’t know your swing we’ll enough then adjusting aim is the easiest thing.

That sounds well and good, and I will make small adjustments as well, but like I said, you do t want to play golf swing and obsess about your ball flight mid round. Generally you’re better off making your small adjustments and then playing the swing you have that day.

I believe Jack Nicklaus used to say things similar to that.

The trick is finding the sweet spot of making tweaks, but not so much that you mess up your whole round, which is where my question in the OP comes from

It really depends on my level of hung over/buzzed. If I’m hungover, I wait until I level out. Then, the swing will work itself out. If I’m buzzed or sober, I try adjustments and by 8 have a buzz and say frick it, play the flight I’m hitting and try to drop birdies on the back.

Doesn’t matter what hole I do it on, I’m guaranteed to miss the other way on the first hole I try adjusting my aim

My misses are usually “over the top” terrible swings.

I don’t worry about any tee shot that is between the tree lines.

You get to a point where every couple of holes is either a small adjustment or trying to stay focused on repeating what you’ve been doing that’s working. The adjustments are rarely aim but rather swing related. Tempo, grip, head movement, etc.

Usually I have to adjust early when I am sober. Find my groove about holes 5-12 after a few beers. Then just try to keep it together 14 and on once I am intoxicated

My approach is to pick a spot where if it takes my normal shot shape, I'll be okay and if I shape it the opposite of normal, then I am not in that much trouble.

I am in the process of workout out a 10 yard draw (never had a draw before) and typically means aiming right of the flag stick and trying to play it short if there's trouble around the green. I also make subtle adjustments throughout the round to my grip as I try to straighten it out

As soon as my misses become consistent, which has yet to happen. So, if you don't mind, I'll bookmark this thread and let you know when it happens.

I refuse to adapt to a shot or 2.

I play a draw off the tee. If I hit 3 fades in a row I'm doing something wrong in my swing, I'll spend the entire round correcting it if necessary.

My dad will adjust for his swing that day, seen it work either way.

Did you come here to ask a question or to tell us what you do?

My question was at what point in the round do you start making those adjustments with your swing or aiming point. You plan to hit a draw but hit 2 fades in a row, do you start playing for the ball to fade? Do you trust your swing and make a small adjustment and keep playing it to draw?

Where is the cut off point

I used to do that too but I’ve found more times than not it’s a great recipe for a horrible round. If I hit an errant shot or two I will stick with the plan and adjust my swing slightly.

If it continues then I just start to plan for the ball to fly whatever way it’s flying that day. If it’s a high draw then I play that, and on those days I’m in the mid 70’s. If it’s something else then I play to that, I’ve found I can still salvage a good round that way.

I shot a 79 (a good score for me) the other day hitting low fades on almost every swing, after the 3rd hole I realized it was pointless to fight it so adjusted my strategy.

A year ago I would’ve shot a 90+ that day bc I would’ve kept trying to adjust my swing to get the “perfect” ball flight.

At the end of the day it doesn’t matter what the ball looks like in the air, at the range it’s different of course

I will always try and do the things in my swing to hit the shot I picture in my head. I never aim to a spot where if I make a good swing and do what I am trying to the result will be bad.

If its a tournament or there is money on the line sure. But this is a quick way to ensure you never get better.

The problem for me is that if I don't adjust my aim, I can usually play my miss. If I adjust my aim and then hit one pure then that one goes somewhere way off now.

At least that is how it usually goes down. As soon as I aim for my miss I hit one true and it flies OB.

Adjusting my aim is one of the last things I personally would do. Alignment, ball position, grip . . . there are plenty of more likely culprits. I’d want to know if it was just my tee shot or is the whole bag off?

He only reason I might adjust my aim first is if I have a temporary physical ailment that is affecting my swing.
