I thought the new deal that Lsupride was speaking of was the deal with PIF. But he was talkin gabout a deal with SSG, which is not related to the Saudi's.

What will you do when the PGA Tour accepts $1.5B from them?

Dislike the golfers? Only those that I disliked before they joined LIV. Let’s be honest, LIV picked a few unlikable players.

Hate the LIV product.

There are a few that have become more likable for me. Sergio, Bubba, Reed, Hatton.

There are a handful of the international guys that I’ve never really cared about either way & still don’t

Somebody on the documentary said imagine if LIV was backed by Apple or Google.

I would welcome any company that wanted to start a tour that actually had to worry about generating a profit or breaking even at some point. LIV isn’t worried about a ROI, tried to do a hostile takeover on the PGA and paid way over market value to PGA golfers that otherwise would have never left the PGA.

Don't blame any of the older guys for going, Sergio/Bubba/Poulter, etc

Don't blame the injured guy for going: Koepka

Don't blame the guy who thought the Tour was dicking over the players and who may have had a serious gambling debt to pay: Mickelson

DO blame the guy who was making a ton of money, talked about legacy shite, then left because of $$$: Rahm

Guys that are weirdos that I wish were still on the Tour: DJ, Bryson

Don't care about anyone else on LIV, including Niemann

Phil really made the best choice he could. Yeah, he won at 51, but that was only the 4th win over 50 ever. No one over 51 has won anything. So, his options were: suck on the PGA Tour, play the Tour Champions, or LIV.

He wanted to leave his mark on professional golf & he has obviously done that. This comment from his conversation with Shipnuck years ago:

quote:

“They’ve been able to get by with manipulative, coercive, strong-arm tactics because we, the players, had no recourse,” Mickelson told Shipnuck in 2022.

“As nice a guy as [Monahan] comes across as, unless you have leverage, he won’t do what’s right. And the Saudi [Public Investment Fund] money has finally given us that leverage. I’m not sure I even want [the league that would become LIV Golf] to succeed, but just the idea of it is allowing us to get things done with the [PGA] Tour.

I just find it funny that people act like LIV is a solid product due to their political/idealogical points of few.
Can’t blame the players for taking hundreds of millions of dollars but LIV golf is freaking dumb as a thing

It could be. I really have no idea what's going on in the sport these days.. I was sort of keeping up with all the LIV stuff as it was happening a few years ago, then I just got tired of it and shut it off and quit watching golf.

I'm learning more about it watching Full Swing Season 2.

I don't dislike anyone who went to LIV for more money, if someone doubled my salary tomorrow I'd be there.

you do realize the tour players play an annual event in Saudi Arabia and that the pga tour is currently working towards a partnership with them. Guess you will have to stop watching golf all together.

Nailed it.

I’d love to hear a guy like Rahm speak freely about LIV.

Why didn’t he work towards that years before when the players asked for it? Instead he let the tours GC laugh in their faces.

Because inviting private equity in is almost always a bad idea long term. But the players required their money injection. Like almost all PE the players of the future will feel the pain

LIV has proven that pro golfers were getting paid what they were actually worth, or actually, more. Besides a select few individual golfers aren’t worth much in terms of return dollars.

Jon Rahm was one of the best and most popular golfers on the planet. He left the tour and the tour has increased its viewership after his departure. He, as an individual wasn’t worth anything to them

So, in short, private equity is going to want to actually make money on their investment. And making money on golf after injecting 1.5 billion is going to take some serious cutting of expenses because the revenue isn’t there (AKA making it shitier)
