Any of you guys in a golf league (non country club)?

I live in Dallas btw.
I’m trying to figure out if joining an amateur league is worth it. The kind that you pay a yearly fee, and then generally an entree fee to tournaments which pay out if you place.
Or the kind where you play a match a month or bimonthly vs another person with tournaments mixed in.
Anybody with experience? Worth it? Waste of money?

I started one with 5 other guys about 14 years ago. Now we have 100 members. It’s been one of the great joys of my life.

I was in with dp at one point. It was fun but life takes over and most of the tournaments fell on my call weekend.

I live in Dallas, and I play in a couple of skins games. There’s one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Not exactly what you’re talking about, but it’s some kind of group competition. I’ve met a lot of good guys through those groups.

How do I get involved in this (I’m a 10 handicap but haven’t kept up with an official handicap in a few years)

I’d love to find something like this in Houston. I’ve been consumed with kids activities for a decade but finally starting to feel comfortable with going to do my own thing when needed

I was invited into one in Lafayette back in the early 2000's and I didn't join because I suck very bad at golf. I regret not joining because I love to to play and hang out with people. I just didnt want to embarrass myself.

I’ll get you in. Handicap isn’t an issue. Obviously you have to be able to birdie holes other than par 5s.

Was it AGS or LMGA? Is so, you can easily join both. I’m in AGS. LMGA plays on Sunday, so I didn’t join.

Houston has plenty of amateur organizations. Before going into the golf business i was on the board of directors for Houston Amateur Golf Association they play year round every other Sunday (www.haga.org), golf channel am tour is available they play monthly. Some courses have weekly skins game (Cypresswood, River Terrace and Cinco Ranch i believe)
