Upcoming Changes to XBOX Cloud Gaming - Starting November, Game Pass plans include a set number of cloud gaming hours each month:
Game Pass Ultimate: 15 hours
Game Pass Premium: 10 hours
Game Pass Essential: 5 hours
non-Game Pass users can purchase cloud playtime hours
LINK
The timing of this right after the announcement of the Disc-to-Digital program is pretty hilarious.

see guys, by limiting your cloud gaming time, microsoft is allowing you to spend more time playing the far superior physical disc versions of other games.

Like I've said many times, Cloud gaming simply isn't viable. I don't believe there are people using it enough to actually care about this.

Every device is now an Xbox! Play games from anywhere any time!
Weeeeeeell for 5 hours a month anyway. You can still pay for more!

Sure, that could give you the ability to play that game through the cloud, but that's at best a tertiary benefit of the program.

This is awesome because you can share it between multiple consoles without carrying the disc around
You remind me of listening to Metallica bitch about Napster after I'd bought Kill 'Em All four times and didn't want to buy it a fifth time.
But this entire thread was about moving the goalposts and the enshittification of the product, which you have not addressed.
Meanwhile, GeForceNow at $10 a month limits gaming sessions to six hours, but not overall time (limited session starts permitted).

At no point have I ever claimed that I view cloud gaming as a benefit. It sucks. It doesn't work well at all. You can search my post history and the most complimentary thing you'll ever find me saying about cloud gaming is that it has potential, but it suffers from game breaking lag at random intervals so is currently only viable for turn based and puzzle type games. Anything that requires a consistent connection so you don't die simply isn't going to work. And that's my experience playing it over a top of the line internet connection hardwired into my Series X. If you want a smooth experience, you have to download the game. Which takes no time at all for most games.
You're welcome to pretend that's me "moving the goalposts" in some way, but it isn't. This is exactly what I've always said about cloud gaming. It's a non-issue. Cloud gaming simply doesn't work. Maybe it will eventually.

This makes no sense in response to what you quoted. Disc-to-digital doesn't require you to repurchase anything. There is no comparison to Napster here whatsoever. How did you even get there?
ETA: I predict this will affect very few gamers at all. The link in the OP claims these limits would currently affect only 4% of Game Pass users, but I'm betting it will be far less than that. Many of these people will simply switch to downloading the games to their consoles to play.

Here's the general consensus online of how you Playstation morons are spinning this.

Man, the timing of this announcement a day after the limited cloud gaming announcement is hilarious as well.

How do you download a game to the TV to bypass the 15 hours?

Because XBOX cares so much about physical media, I believe their partnership with TCL requires TCL to add disc drives to their tvs.

It actually does make more sense given this information. Now I see how they plan to actually make money from this, because right now virtually no one uses streaming.
The new leadership has also been moving away from the "everything is an XBOX" messaging and push. Pushing people to play on their TV set with no console is a step in a direction they're no longer heading in. I'm betting this was already in play before Asha took over so they're trying to mitigate the impact by charging more to people who choose to go this route instead of buying a console.

I will say this. I was playing Palworld on Xbone. Downloaded the game ran like shite. Like literally couldn't play the last quarter of the game. On cloud it ran perfectly. This is a little upsetting. I'm cancelling gamepass right now.
