I'm very happy that I didn't buy this game to support the devs. The censorship in the latest patch is absolutely insane.

For context:

As I said I havent quite finished the game yet but I have been very thorough and from what I understand of the story those changes seem to outright break their own narrative at a very core level.

It would be like Redahn in elden ring just hanging around after you beat him at the festival.

Yeah these devs get some thumbs down from me. The game is insanely fun but they are no sandfall

At most, it should have been a regional patch. No one outside of China gives a shite about bosses/NPCs dying. I'd also love to know what percentage of Chinese players were offended.

Nothing I saw there would be "woke" to me? What changes did they make that make you say that? I am downloading the update now so about to fire it up.

It just seems like they made a bunch of stupid of fricking choices that will mostly fundamentally break the experience and story of any souls like

The changes aren't due to wokeness but more due to weird Chinese ultra-nationlists complaining about really weird, obscure bullshite.

Apparently a few of the bosses in the games are based on actual historical people who lived like 700 fricking years ago and there was this weird faction of Ming dynasty enthusiasts who didn't like the fact you fought and killed them, even in this ridiculously fantastic magic and monsters setting.

So they revised things so that after the fights are over these specific bosses are still alive and talk to you making it clear they aren't dead and you were just sparring with them and shite.

So yeah, more confusing than anything.

Thats fricking stupid, this flies completely in the face of the games story as I understand it.

Imagine if in Sekiro you werent allowed to fight and kill someone in the game because they were a real life figure(I dont think that game directly pulls any people verbatim but theres strong parallels. The point still stands)

These devs are gay. Makes me not want to support their next project whereas I will support what sandfall does blind

China just sucks. Japan was cool with killing a ton of historical figures in Nioh 1/2

Yes it makes the devs look incredibly weak they would so quickly and sloppily cave to such ridiculously stupid "backlash" from such a small group.

It's also extra stupid because it's very common in Eastern games to include and fight historical figures, they weren't doing anything that a gazillion other games have done.

Yeah Japan rocks. I really hope this bs with the payment processors gets stopped so we can hopefully stop having our japanese entertainment censored.

But they also were having kittens prior to AC Shadows releasing, forcing Ubi to make it to where you couldn't destroy shrines and temples because Japanese officials were worried people would visit them IRL and do the same.

Personally I think there is a demarcation in concerns with a game pre release in how you wish to see your culture and history respected or depicted, and stuff to do with a games post release content which is a borderline farce in this case. It was known and advertised it would take place during hte ming dynasty but with fantastical elements and it was marketed as a souls like.

What did these people think you were going to do when interacting with those people? Have some tea and a nice bit of dog for lunch?

At this point the devs might as well turn it into a dating sim

Be careful what you wish for

Wuchang is a looker and that panda outfit is

The graphics in the game are no stellar blade and she isnt lets say, as "thick," as Eve but I bet a larger portion of the audience than youd imagine would take that now that the game might have been ruined in their eyes

On another note im near the end of the game. I actually really really like the story of this game, but it requires you to pay very close attention. Im honestly butthurt they ruined it

I also fail to see how it's possible to get outraged when it's so fantasical.

You aren't like killing these people in any sort of a realistic, historical setting.

I could see how if you made a game where you killed George Washington or something that might be weird, but if "George Washington" turned into a gigantic mutant dragon and began shooting lighting bolts at you, at that point it's pretty f'ing obvious its a god damn video game not meant to be serious statement about anything.

Wasn’t that the situation in an Assassin’s Creed game where Washington declared himself a king and you had to kill him?

No one was upset over that.

Chinamen are soft

Why aren't people outraged over the Dynasty Warriors franchise? Isn't that also loosely based on real history? Specifically, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms? You kill "historical figures" in that game!?

You kill historical figures in an unquantifiable amount of games.

I guess Chyna has different sensibilities. Just not when it comes to muslim to concentration camps

Dont you kill hitler in wolfenstein? I have never played it.

I guess thats ok since we dont like him. I am sure all the Ming chinese were amazing people
