Soulslike games are by far my favorite type of game, so I'm absolutely getting this. Just trying to decide on whether to buy it outright or go the game pass route.
Same. Games play better on my PC with Steam over Game Pass

I just meant it looks like they took the wukong world and just added their own characters. Everything looks the same down to the mountain paths and furniture in buildings

He said yesterday that he'll be doing a 100% walkthrough of the game which means it must not be super linear since that's why he didn't do them for Wukong or Lies of P.

Oh cool…must mean he also really likes the game because he doesn’t put in that time and effort for games that are mediocre

Just started downloading it on PS5. How can it be only 14 gb download on PS5, but 60 on X Box and Steam? Just curious how that works.

It’s possible the ps5 version was the platform they built the game on and all the other versions were made by way of that making the ps5 version not necessarily more optimized more its files are just more compressed. It depends on their development pipeline idk.

Iron pineapples review is out. For those that don’t know who that it is he is one of if not the biggest souls and souls likes YouTubers.
He says the game is very good for a souls like. It’s an hour long though and I haven’t watched it all. He does say it, like lies of p imo, borrows from basically every fromsoft game but does bring its own unique ideas

Those are fairly mediocre scores. I'm going to dig into the actual reviews a bit and see what the supposed complaints were.
If it's about it being too hard or inaccessible or shite, that's actually a huge positive.

From watching iron pineapples video which is just him playing through the first hour and talking over it he compares its feel to dark souls 1 more than anything. I was really not expecting that so the game might be a lot more slow and methodical than suggested.
And he died a lot to the first boss outside the tutorial, for a “souls pro.” I imagine some people found the game very difficult. A lot of the mechanics are way different than people probably expect. There is no traditional level system

Common praise:
Big, interesting skill trees, lots of different ways to actually build your character. Game encourages experimentation. No restrictions on respecing.
Good environmental variety. Lotta variety in terrain. Environments are interesting.
Game encourages and rewards exploration, lotta secrets to find, lotta hidden boss fights, etc.
A lot of really great boss fights. Good variety in the types of fights you see.
Transmog, lotta cool outfits to find.
Common complaints:
Performance issues - some framedrops and stuttering at times, load times being too long, textures can muddy.
Game is too "punishing/frustrating", lots of "cheap" deaths, they world is filled with lots of traps and gotchas, hidden enemies ambushing you, floor traps, things like that. Lots of punishing environments like swamps, etc.
Game tries too hard to be Dark Souls 1 in presentation, storyline, world, NPCs, etc. Tries to build a Dark Soul 1 style interconnected world, but doesn't do it as cleverly.
Story is not told well enough, too vague (ala DS1)
Game doesn't do enough to stand out or be memorable, just another Soulslike, "stale"
Several soy reviewers didn't like the sexy outfits and jiggle physics.
Overall, I'm definitely sold. Most of the "bad" things I actually quite enjoy and I don't play Souls like games for the story. I mostly want difficult combat and bosses and interesting fights. Booba outfits are a good thing. The people who are big fans of Souls likes like it the most, people who are lukewarm on them or who are expecting something more are the harshest on it.
The performance issues is the only real complaint that seems geniune since it's mentioned frequently. No crashes or bugs thankfully, just frame issues or lag or texture mudding at times. I'm sure that will be stuff patched up.

I think the story sounds pretty cool. Multiple endings that are easy to miss if you don’t pay attention and do side quest. I’m not looking for literal cinema and one of the best stories in gaming like expedition 33 in a souls like

Yeah I couldn’t care less about the story.

High praise. Calls this game to Dark Souls what lies of P was to Bloodborne

Gooner-approved
That is always a positive.

It really is something how character attractiveness or just looking normal is very quickly becoming a correlating scale with game quality.

Who is the downvoter in these threads? It’s the Gaming Board…
Can’t wait for this. Tried scratching the itch with Atlas Fallen but it was a frustrating mob boss type game
