Release date is officially October 26th, 7pm EDT. If you've got alts to level up now is the time to get it done before the 100% xp buff goes away later this month with the 9.0 patch. Also some mounts will become rare after the launch and achievements going away.
Anyone hyped for the new expansion? Grinding out levels now on alts?

It's still enough to maintain community. They do a good job of merging realms into clusters when they are low pop. Obviously it's not what it used to be.

I keep coming back and trying, played from the start of BC to right when the pandas came out, now that the kids are a decent age I tried BFA and it held my attention for a couple weeks. Maybe I’m just jaded from the WotLK days but the magic is gone and pvp has been murdered.

Agree with you. It's not that same magic feeling from the Wrath days. I think I keep coming back every expansions for a year or so because it is something I am good at and it gives me some personal sense of accomplishment, however meaningless to anyone else it is.
I like the loon of some of the new systems being introduced, like Torgast as an example. I think it will give a different kind of play and progression than we have seen before.

Ive had Beta access for now roughly 2.5 months here are my notes:
1) Torghast: Extremely fun and replayable. Can be customized for future patches to keep things interesting. Runecarver being placed in here makes it a meaningful area you need to explore.
2) Zones: Art is absolutely crazy.
Favorite Zone: Bastion
Least Favorite: Revendreth
Revendreth is an absolute pain in the arse to navigate through.
3) Castle Nathria (Raid): I know some streamers (Preach) make fun of some of the heroic version of the bosses in the raid but they are all different and offer a change in mechanics as we know. I will admit, the raid changes significantly in terms of how you view fights depending on what difficulty level you play at. LFR/Normal is boring, Heroic Denathrius is extremely fun, Mythic in general is crazy and I recommend everyone give it a go.
4) Dungeons: The art again crazy good here.
Favorite Dungeon: Hall of Attonement
Least Favorite: Plagueworks
Each dungeon has its quirks and the covenant specific unlocks add an interesting flavor to the dungeons. Bosses on mythic+ are original and offer cool mechanics to deal with such as in the Necrotic Wake, you have to aim a Abom chain at the Boss to actually to dps to him.
5) Covenant Soulbinds: This is where the population splits. Certain Soulbinds in certain covenants mathematically are better than the others pending on your class. Sometimes 10-20% better. So the myriad of choice lessens if you are mythic raider such as myself (where you are expected to play the absolute best covenant for your class no matter if you like it or not). For instance, I am a Resto Shaman, I absolutely will take Kyrian and Kleia Soulbind for Mythic Castle Nathria due to the healer aspects Kleia brings but also Vesper Totem. However, if you aren't some bleeding edge guy/gal but someone who casual wonders in the Shadowlands, this doesnt really matter to you in the grand scheme of things.
I can go on and on but those are some of the things ive noticed.
Legendaries, conduits, enchants, all bring more possibilities with crafting professions so that they actually mean something again.
LORE IS GREAT IF YOU ARE INTO THAT.

I loved the shite out of Legion, but thought BFA was hot garbage. And it’s the same game experience.

Great write up. I'm going to give it a shot. Never got into BFA but hopefully this will get me back in.

Not even close. The raids are boring and mechanically way too easy.
Even BFA which is a terrible expansion is a better game. Classic is only good for nostalgia.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten a. ETA invite. What's the difficulty like in Torghast? Is it casual friendly, or mythic raiders are the only ones who will find any success in there kind of thing?

I trying to decide what class and spec to play. It looks like you will build up some kind of talent system for different abilities that will become more powerful.

Torghast is getting revamped again this build.
You will have only 1 wing to complete (the tutorial) to unlock Torghast as a whole.
There are still additional wings to complete the main questline (free certain major characters I will not say).
Torghast will now have 18 levels and be the challenge mode per say for the patch. It will reward legendary mats and TMOG related items.
This mode wont be live until the build update which has not happened yet. However, the difficulty seems rather straightforward for the casual player. Obviously the challenge mode portion will offer more rewards to the more skilled individual.
You can actually practice your class spec on PTR right now which is available for everyone.

I'm hearing scuttlebutt they will have two pre-release patches. 1 with the level crunch that removes winds of wisdom, and then a later with the mechanics and event start.
Curious to see how well they manage the level crunch. I hear they have done a good job with the scaling.

I agree 50_Tiger - i have been checking the Beta out, and it seems it will be fun.

After Cataclysm and especially after the introduction of level boosts, I bowed out.

Torghast has an update again (explained).
There are 8 Layers in Torghast.
1 Layer = 18 floors
8 Layers = 144 Floors
Completing the 8th layer gets you the very cool mount.

Interesting. So the anticipation is floors 1-18 are for casual players, and 18-144 is for the not so casual?
