A show would be great.

There's too much backstory and lore to fit into a 2 hour movie successfully

Kinda what I thought. Have like 3 seasons that are 10-15 episodes each. All of which are pushing an hour long.

As long as it wasn't anime and one film.

I think it could make a great series, but it would be a terrible movie. Way too much information.

Tv series might work, but the budget would be high. I guess they figured there are a lot of entrants into that market with Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, etc.

Video games are always tough to move to the big screen. If they haven’t made a Halo movie as popular as that series was/is, I don’t know how they could make anything.

I would just like it to come out before May 14th, seems like a long time from now.

I think it would be hard to make any FPS into a successful series when there really isnt a huge emphasis on character development.

Mass Effect (minus the meh ending to 3) is one of the greatest stories thats ever come out of the video game industry.

You’re more playing a story that has action in it, than you are concerned with the battles themselves. I doubt I’m alone in my opinion that with each subsequent side mission (especially with all the DLCs), i became more and more emotionally invested in each member of the crew.
I think it would make for a great TV series as long as they followed the plot of the trilogy without going off track too-much or trying to make an “all original story” set in the ME universe.

I could not disagree more. Like, vehemently. There’s a whole galaxy to explore, and a ton of time to work with. First Contact War. Rachni War. Even humans first discovery of the beacon. Or following a cell against the Reaper invasion. There are so many storylines that could be fleshed out more. It could be what The Clone Wars was for the prequel trilogy.

The issue would be that the only people who would care about it are people who are already invested in the games. If they wanted a GoT-esque audience, I think they would need to start with the original story.

After that, the galaxy is their oyster.

Maybe, but I don’t think Mass Effect’s hard sci-fi has the crossover appeal of a GoT. GoT hooked people early with political intrigue before it brought in the more hardcore fantasy elements, and by that point people who wouldn’t go for that ordinarily were hooked because of the show’s quality. ME is niche, might as well lean into that.

This is my hot take, your opinion might differ and I’m okay with that.

FIFY

Sorry. Still traumatized.

I like to say the show got worse as the budget went up.

I just don't really consider the narrative of ME1 to be hard sci-fi. You go to a planet, you get attacked by space zombies. You go back to the big space station, and then get sent back out to collect information, allies, and resources while trying to hunt down a traitor. That's no more complicated of a universe than Star Trek or any other mass market sci-fi from the last few decades.

I would argue that the initial lore required to understand Mass Effect is no more complicated, or niche, than the lore required to understand GoT. Hell, that had us dealing with White Walkers, wights, heart trees, and maesters basically immediately. And unlike the aliens in Mass Effect, none of those had great tits.

I totally understand where you're coming from, and agree there is a lot to the ME universe to be explored.

In my opinion- that would only work if the main story is done properly in a medium that appeals to the masses, not just gamers.

Before you make prequels and sequels, i believe its necessary to draw people in with the story that made us all love the ME universe to begin with.
