let's see where the ps4 comes in at. I agree that the ps4 is the better console AS OF NOW, but I would still take a PC over a console any day. Being able to upgrade where I want, fix my own shite, get retarded cheap games, choose between kbm and controller, play roms, pirate stuff, surf the web, etc makes it worth spending a little more on HW. I am also excited to see where the ouya and other steam boxes come in price wise. the real winner from this console war is gabe newell. a lot of the games that were exclusive to either ps4 or xbone are available for PC. titanfall, all the indie games in the ps4 reveal, transistor, bf4, d3, gta5, witcher 3, etc.
PC is in a very good position atm.

I still need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse in addition to the system.

CPU AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core $194.67
CPU Cooler Cooler Master Hyper N520 43.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing $19.99
Motherboard MSI 970A-G43 ATX AM3+ $69.98
Memory Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 $57.99
Storage Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM $65.58
Video Card EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB $179.99
Case Cooler Master Elite 370 ATX Mid Tower $33.39
Power Supply Corsair 600W ATX12V $37.99
Optical Drive LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer $17.98

Total $677.56

You could still get the memory cheaper probably and I would see if the 7870 goes on sale again soon and get it instead of the 660 but this build will do you fine.

This is huge. This pays for the extra a PC may run you. Especially for someone like me that buys a crap load of games even when I was on console.

For sure Puff..And those reasons are why I switched from consoles to PC. Growing up and getting a job that gave me the cash to build a PC helped in my transition as well.

I really cannot see how someone who has continual discretionary income would come to a conclusion that PC is not the best choice. There were some console exclusives from Ps3 this gen that I did not want to miss. Mostly that of Naughty Dog.
But I also enjoy the PC only exclusives too. Eve online and up until this Gen PlanetSide2 and starcraft Company of Hereos and Dota2 and Dayz.
Add in steam, and it is really a no brainer

So how long would that build last before having to upgrade anything to handle higher-end games?

just hope fedex doesn't punch a fricking hole in the package.
still dealing with this BS on this crossover. finally the seller agrees that they'll pay shipping back and refund me the money and days later the case times out. Its not going to be a big deal but thats how long I have been fooling with this shite because a)the seller offers free shipping because they are claiming the monitor is used with no value so they can ship cheaply and b)because fedex is a bunch of frickups.

Just not practical. I'm not going to 1440 for a while and so I may just get a new card then. I play everything great on 1080.

That will handle all of the higher end games just fine at 1080P.

I would guess you could get 3-4 years out of it if you truly wanted to but with the new consoles out I am not sure how fast games may change and what those demands will do for PC. May not change at all as the hardware on consoles is still lacking for the most part. The only thing they have though is a proprietary system that lets them get more with less.

yeah i hear you. The monitor is $350 itself, plus the $200 for the card. Gets expensive, and we aren't all Coyote.

For 1080, 1 high end GPU will benefit you more.

1. Less heat
2. Less headaches with drive compatibility in game while in Cfx.
3. No microstutting

3-4 years is longer than I expected. Sounds like a good deal if I can find a cheap quality monitor. Still gotta do my research and build up the guts to drop about $800 for a system before even getting games, but it's a good start.

I would only plan on max 2 maybe 3 years before you start looking to upgrade at least the vid card or CPU.

Just my opinion.
