Sure, hey you can qualify it that way. I guess the consumer has the choice. I just thought since we were paying for brand new console equipment, we could do the same with brand new PC stuff.
What's the warranty on a new console because that GPU still has 3 years on it. That MOBO only has 90 days but BFD if you have to chunk it in a year and get an upgraded one.
Yes that was 8GB of ram plus the 2Gb of dedicated Vram on the GPU.

For you PC experts, how cheap could I build a really good gaming PC? I need everything except the OS since I get Windows 7 for free from LSU. I definitely need to keep it under $800 but I'd like it to be much cheaper than that.

Did they say those games would run at 60 FPS? If not i doubt they will.

I put this one together the other day for someone. It's a little over $800 now but I could update it with comparable parts and get it below $800 easily if you wanted me to.

$800 could get you a low-lvl high end build. (If you're not counting peripherals and OS)

They said BF4 and CoD will. I assume that good settings on PC will be = to the new consoles so 60FPS wouldn't be hard to achieve.

I agree that you can get good deals in the 400-500 price range. But I think it is extremely hard to get quality brand new components for 399.
When comparing the ::effort:: it will take to do that for a PC vs a PS4 where you can just walk in to any retailer and by it and plug it in and know every game just works..I think PS4 makes a compelling case for some gamers.
We aren't really even discussing the cost of controllers/headphones and mice keyboards. I mean, if you are going to game you are not going to buy the low dpi mouse clicker and a terrible 9 dollar keyboard. Are we even factoring those into our budget for the PC? I sure as heck spent more than 11 dollars on mouse and keyboard.
In summary, I am glad that the PS4 is the price it is and I hope that the games STAY the same price that they are now. It would destroy the value prop we are discussing against the PC if the PS4 games went up a bunch.

I still need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse in addition to the system. I can sell my laptop and 250GB 360 and get a good bit of money towards it but $800 would still probably be my max because I need to afford books and other things for next year and I don't have a summer job.

The effort of sitting in your underwear and checking reddit/buildapcsales or Amazon everyday then ordering it all online?

Gigabyte makes a very nice select DPI gaming mouse for $11 and as far as a keyboard goes you can get by with something inexpensive for a while.
I have Logitech KB/M but I wouldn't be opposed to using the above mentioned stuff if I had to just to get my foot in the door.

The first time I played Skyrim on Ultra with mods I didn't give 2 shits how much more my PC cost than my 360. Some people like value and some people like performance. If I'm going to spend money on something that plays games im spending it on a PC that does a whole lot more and plays games better.

No really.
You can build a low-low midgrade level rig at that price point and it will stil outperform. It can be done.

Yeap, definitely agree with you. I think you summed up the difference between :master race:: and everyone else.

Zelda and Super Smash Bros was the only reason we bought Wiis. This time around, same story probably.
Most people say that but I genuinely find fun in Nintendo games, they truly tend to be an event of a generation. I enjoy a Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo or God of War as much as the next guy, but those games are literally a dime a dozen.

No DRM is a game changer. I don't see how Microsoft can defend their position right now.
I just don't understand this. Isn't your Xbox always connected to live?? Are you using a hacked xbox? Why is this a big deal?

Which leads into a strong point for PC. It is much more of an investment gaming system than say a console. Once you get the proverbial foot in the door, and then upgrade time is so freaking fun and much cheaper because you can pace it.
I know that is way off topic so I will stop there.

I think can make you a decent build for cheaper so you can have some money for this stuff. Let me adjust that build some and see.
Get a monitor off of Craigslist. Ask Bluebarracuda about doing that. He has gotten some good ones from doing that.
This thing is usually $11-$12 and I have used it before. It has selectable DPI and is not bad to start with

I would look around for a KB but something like this to start wouldn't be bad

I just picked up that gigabyte mouse, it's quality stuff.
What hasn't been mentioned about building is that in 2 years it won't be a challenge at all to build a pc more powerful for the same price. I'm glad I built, nothing from the consoles blew me away. There are a couple of games here or there but not enough yet. If they start to add up I will get a new console.
