Finally replaying the PS5 version after a break for a few years. This game is amazing. I still get amazed at the world they crafted for this and the stories told through both main quests and side quests.

And, thus, a subreddit was born...then became a far left anti-gaming cesspool.
Still a top 5 GOAT to me. Can't wait for the inevitable remake.

Everything about Witcher 3 is perfect. I normally stay away from these massive open world, story driven RPGs. But this was an exception. This isn't tedious, like most of the games in this genre are.
I plan on re-playing it on PS5, but I want to wait until I have the time to enjoy it again.

Alchemy is OP in the end game and NG+, but not when first starting back out right?

Yes, and they actually nerfed the shite out of alchemy builds with the remaster.
Anyway, by no means a perfect game, but still a masterpiece. Though I say that as someone who read all the books and played the first two games prior to playing it, so I can’t speak to what the character development feels like for someone who hasn’t. But I get a bit emotional every time I wrap up B&W.

I've actually never finished Blood and Wine. Done every single side quest and every ? twice, but always stop just short of finishing as I'm too sad about it ending.

Not sure how it hits people who only played TW3, but B&W is arguably the best executed fan service in gaming history, and that includes The Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3. It really satisfyingly ties up several character arcs, and it feels less like an abrupt ending and more that Geralt has finally earned some well deserved rest.

I would say TW3 and Oblivion are tit for tat on having my favorite side quests of all time.

i came into witcher 3 with my only experience being about 1 hours worth of 2 which i didnt care for at the time.
came away loving it. reading the books slowly now. on the 4th one.

I had absolutely no background into the Witcher until TW3. I loved Skyrim so I checked it out. It is my all-time favorite game now. It really is an absolute masterpiece.

TW2 would be a really difficult entry point, as it has by far the most difficult combat, which kinda spikes hard right at the beginning.
I read all the books, then played TW1/2/3. Sometime later, I read the books again and replayed 3 again. Because, in my opinion, Sapkowski isn't a great writer, while I enjoyed my first read, Geralt's character didn't really resonate with me. But when I went back with the full story arc in mind, he resonated with me far more, and it made that next playthrough really powerful.

The whole creepy mystery of Crookback Bog with the witches and the evil tree and the dark magic, along with the misery all across Velen from being caught in a war. Then how peaceful it gets when you get north of the river and trot around near Novigrad.
Then the sheer isolation and solitude you feel when you're in Kaer Mohen looking at the mountains. Or the stunning landscapes around Skellige, and the fairy tale beauty of Toussaint. Truly a masterpiece.

agree 100%. if i didnt have the game background and "that Geralt" in my mind im not sure the books would be as enjoyable as i find them now.

I’ve told this story before but in the summer of 2015 I was 25 and getting out of control with the binge drinking. My dad had an “intervention” with me after I drunkenly hopped on a red eye to Vegas by myself after drinking at bww for March madness. I had decided it was time to put the bottle down for awhile, and that I’d get back into gaming to take up some of my time
I hadn’t gamed seriously since college, just madden here and there. Ended up going out and buying an Xbox one and started looking into a good rpg to sink into. Landed on Witcher 3 and it was life changing. For the whole summer I did nothing but work, gym, and witcher 3. It kept me from drinking and absolutely sucked me in
I eventually started drinking again but for that summer I kept my head on straight and that game was a big part of it, and for that reason it holds a special place in my heart. I still go back and listen to the Skellige map music from time to time.

So much is great about Witcher 3:
Absolute master-level story telling.
Great sidequests that reward exploration and build the world.
Decisions by the player seriously impact the outcome as well as have unexpected consequences many hours later in the game
Great balance between being a power fantasy for the player and having real challenge
Difficulty slider is always toggleable so one can ratchet it up as they get better at the game or ratchet it down when they get stuck so as to avoid losing progress.
Beautiful open world maps that feel relatively full and are a joy to explore (except the ocean caches in Skellige).
Fantastic post-game content
Great tutorial that really teaches one the basics in a fun way.
The game isn’t without its flaws, but I really enjoyed it. Top 5 game of its generation, and probably a top 10 game all time for me.
