Why do they make video games without auto aim or the option to choose auto aim?

GTA V for example has an auto aim button that locks onto the enemy and you can hold the button down and switch enemies by moving the stick left or right.

Why do they make games that don’t even give you the option to do this?

There’s nothing I hate more than moving that stick all around the place trying to focus perfectly on what you’re trying to shoot.

I feel like real life is more like auto aim because you’re basically pointing your gun right at what you’re trying to shoot. You aren’t swinging your gun all around the place trying to get it to the perfect spot.

It sucks because a lot of games that would be great are not even worth my time solely for this reason.

Games designed with consoles in mind usually have an auto aim feature. Games designed with PC in mind usually don’t.

How much sense does it make to not even give people the option to choose how they want to aim?

I own plenty and I’ve never had to swing my gun all around to focus on a target.

So Far Cry for example is better to play on a PC?

my only advice for you is to adjust your sensitivity.

im not sure how old you are, but this mechanic has been in games since they were first invented. believe it or not, some developers actually want to make the game a challenge, and test the players skill and ability.

there are options for that, but mostly to invert controls.

All FPS games are better to play on PC. The mouse give you better hand eye accuracy.

But should it really be more challenging to shoot a target in a video game vs real life?

Programming and balancing auto-aim features takes a significant amount of time. In my opinion, it would be among the most difficult features to allow toggling when it comes to game balance.

I would rather listen to nails on a chalkboard than play a FPS with a controller. I think my preferences in order would be nails on a chalkboard > racing game with kb/m > fps with controller > being swarmed by mosquitos.

As a general rule of thumb, FPS games are better with keyboard and mouse compared to controller.

There is a very rare set of exceptions, but otherwise kbm is just better.

You just don't play enough. It's pretty easy.

I think there's an in-between when you compare shooting a gun in real life vs being in a real life firefight.

I seriously doubt many, if any, of us can claim the latter. Hell, my brother spent 10 years in the Marines and then the Army and never saw combat, plus he was trained to not only use a weapon but specifically in the context of an actual warzone.

How many GTA characters can claim that?

I feel the same way. I'll switch to my controller when driving/flying in GTA, but vastly prefer mouse and keyboard when shooting. Was never a fan of FPS with a controller.

One day I'd like to setup an actual flight stick and throttle and play some flight sims, but I doubt I'd play them enough to justify the purchase and space.

What game are you playing that has spurred this topic? For the record, I do not like any form of aim assist at all when I am playing a game with Mouse/KB, but on the other hand, I find playing games that have little to no aim assist very frustrating to play with a controller.

I feel like you can go too far in the other direction though. GTA V and RDR2 virtually require no aiming skills whatsoever.

Every time someone turns on Auto-Aim in a shooter, a bald eagle sheds a tear. Do you want to make bald eagles cry, you heartless son of a bitch? Do you?

I bought a PS3 and was playing Far Cry 3, which seemed really cool, until I got in fire fights and shot everything but the enemies. I think the problem is what some other people here have mentioned, FPS games are a no no on consoles. I’m not a PC person, so I’ll just stick to non FPS games. Sucks, but it is what it is I guess.

No, it's because you just bought a ps3. You have to practice quite a bit before you can headshot people. It will get better.

Destiny had it down pat with the sticky reticle thing. That's about as good as you can do for a console shooter IMO

im not even sure what youre arguing for or against.

are you por auto aim or against it?

either way a lot of games have either or option.

most FPS dont though, because, well, getting good at aiming on those is kind of the point.
