re: Used games dying and adapting to change

I've been saying for years used games hurts consoles more than pirates hurt PC because it removes an actual sale. I'm more concerned with renting games being affected, as I think that would harm developers. I've bought games I never would have without renting.

I, for one, welcome our Illuminati overlords.

Yes, the EULA's say this, and have for some time, but a change to digital only purchases changes this dynamic in a practical way, rather than a legal one.
The EULA might say I don't really own my copy of Uncharted 2, but because it's a physical game, I can still play it 30 years from now. Sony can't prevent me from doing that.
This shift to digital only purchases will change this entire relationship and I believe this is inevitable.
But I don't think everyone is excited about Sony's used games announcement from yesterday simply because they like trading in their used games. Much of the fanfare over this is because people want to at least *feel* like they own the things they buy and are able to do what they want with them (lend them, sell them, etc.)
As you point out, the truth is we don't truly own them (legally) and this shift in the market is going to make that painfully clear to a lot of people. A lot of the animosity expressed at Microsoft and support of Sony is a reflection of this.

Which is why I don't get why people circle jerk over Steam.

It sounded like you did...just a few months ago...
Funny that you had to go back 5 months to find that.
You think you boomed me but I was obviously trolling the PS4 as I have been known to do if you would pay attention.
Anyone that knows me knows I have never traded in any game I have bought on any console. Well...I may have traded in Far Cry 2 because it was a PoS but outside of that I don't see the value in trading in games vs keeping them for future use. I also have never bought a used game outside of a few at one Blockbuster that was going out of business and they were like $1 for some games that I gave to my nephew.
Why buy a used game and risk the potential of scratches or something just to save $5 whole dollars?

Notice Cs isn't actually linking this stuff because it is pretty damn old. Had I said this a week ago I see it as something to LOL about but it's months old.
ETA: The quote Cs used is actually yet again from a thread of me trolling the PS4
That's the real reason he didn't link any of it. Nice try to twist it.

Good point but as long as they have a very good playable demo for people to try out I don't see it as being too disastrous.

What do you want to play Thursday night?
Posted on 6/11/13 at 12:19 pm to Blitzed
Whatevs. I need to put my PC together. I haven't played since the last time we played.
How do you like Cs quoting old threads of me trolling the PS4 with no link because the link would hurt his agenda?
Funny he doesn't quote and link stuff like this that I had said before the other two quotes he posted.

Lately? All digital pretty much.(PC)
I only buy physical copies on the rare occasion I am buying a new release for console and it's always a new game. I would stop doing even that if Xbox had digital same day releases.

True. My opinion is tainted because I haven't been too serious about console gaming since they have gotten really "connected". (Not because of it, just chronologically speaking) Online demos serve the same purpose.

There are several under the radar games that I have bought new because of demos and videos on Youtube or Twitch. That will still exist obviously so no rental market wouldn't hurt sales that much I think.

I'm thinking dayz on a new map. I'd like to have a partner to roam and kill people with. We never really got to do that with the TD server. You were always fighting with the beggars.
Yeah that guy is serious business. He probably had all that copy and pasted in a file named Stoutsmydaddy. Probably has so nudes of you in the shower in that folder as well.

Yea but I pass those out freely so that's no big deal.
DayZ sounds fine. I will get the updates downloaded tomorrow some time.
