I honestly thought this was going to be about the new versions of Kitana, Tanya, and Sonya in MK1.

MK1 related:

I read where people were saying they put more clothes on the women, and less on the men. . .because men fight with their clothes off, women don't. So it was about realism.

To which my initial response was in MMA and boxing, the only difference is the sports bra.

But in MK1 chicks are apparently wearing turtlenecks and long sleeves and shite.

Nah you're right. They don't look like Mortal Kombat chicks at all.

Never been a fan of the character anyway, but this is just strikingly bad:

ETA: The worst part is they actually had a face model for the character, and while I can definitely see some similarities the real life person is much more attractive.

Just one of the reasons I appreciate the Witcher games. They actually made attractive female characters.

So are the game developers just bad at their job when it came to character creation or are they catering to this "everyone is beautiful in their own way" narrative?

People like aesthetically pleasing games and that includes the characters. No one wants to play as some fugly 2 out of 10 chick or some fat loser slob male character.

Give me chesticles and and ripped torsos

There’s a lot to consider with how character design has changed in recent years.

Seems like it’s not off putting to have physically fit, objectively attractive men characters but women have to be covered up at a minimum and made to look unappealing in some cases.

Seems like it’s a sour grapes overtly feminist urge to dissuade objectification. A means of subverting the male gaze, I guess?

In reality, it seems to give off the impression that men are the superior sex who have no issue being jacked AF and presenting male dominant traits while women are forced to cover up and are often uggos. Seems like Muslim style social conservatism with extra steps. What a surprise, the only thing radical feminists hate more than men are other women.

i think its because younger artists, designers, and developers are coming of age who were raised with different ideals and aesthetics. i guess thats what they like. dont know why maybe it reflects what their peers like more too?

They want to subvert everything that heterosexual men like.

dont know why im getting downvoted. i didnt train these neckbeard femboys to like the shite they like. Doesnt change the fact that young people dont like the same shite us middle age dudes grew up on.

I mean maybe, but that picture in the OP is not an objectively attractive woman in any time period after the year 1900.

I can see that argument, but there's a line between the fantasy of gaming and realism based on the genre of the game and the audience you are hoping to target with it.

For example, a medieval RPG targeted towards both males and females? Give a range of visual clothing options for both sexes and make it not impact armor (if the game has an armor component).

Targeting mainly males? Make the women hot with skimpy clothing.

Targeting mainly females? Make the men hot with skimpy clothing.

This isn't rocket science.

I won't be accepting any judgement on social issues from the Japanese.

The culture that brought us furries. They can kiss my arse.
