Has anyone bought any of the off-brand pro controllers? Like most of you, I'm not paying $70 for a pro controller mostly because I play my Switch on the go a lot more than when I'm sitting at home

It's my favorite system right now. I'm a huge Sony fan and still love my PS4, it's probably the best overall console this gen for sure. But I since I got the switch in March, I've only gone to the PS4 a handful of times, for Fortnite, and a Bloodborne replay.

Part of this is that Nintendo has more than a couple 100+ (200+ if you count Zelda) games out that are very rewarding to play for long periods, I put 100 hours in a MARIO game, that's unreal. 215 hrs in Zelda, pushing 40 at Xenoblade and I just got it a week ago, and even a good bit into Splatoon/Mario Kart/Arms/Stardew Valley.

The other part is the portability factor. I'm getting more gaming time in the bed, and also while the wife or kids watch the TV here and there.

Future is bright for the switch. I can't wait for Metroid, and the inevitable Zelda/Mario sequel, and all the other first party stuff.

The you have Bethesda on board, Square, etc. From the beginning. The rate of consoles being sold will get other third parties to come over for sure.

It's also the perfect platform for indie games and retro style games.

Golf Story is an amazing old school RPG, and Stardew Valley on the switch is the definitive way to play that game.

I waited out the pro controller until i was gifted one for my birthday in December. $70 is super steep but it's probably the best controller I've used on any console. You can also use it on PC so that makes it a little easier to justify. The battery life is unreal as well.

Yeah I love mine. I rotate though between SP:TFBW on PS4 and AC:O on Xbox.

I only wish that my Switch had grabbed my attention like it has grabbed yours. The last few months of 2017 had some good games though.

Switch Officially Sells More Than the Wii U in Under a Year

It's also on a faster pace than the Wii and PS4. That's bound to slow down, but Year 2 of the Wii was huge - ~26 million units.

and in typical developer fashion, will complain that their game "didn't sell well" so they will "have to look into if we should do this again" while completely ignoring that they shite on the console by creating such a shitty port.

This drives me insane when companies do this.

Activision running the Guitar Hero franchise into the ground is great example. They release something like 15 games in 5 years, often made it hard to find the game stand alone w/o instruments, and when people are all "Uhh, I'm not buying what are essentially track packs at full price every 3 months" they decide it means nobody likes GH anymore and the series needs to die. No you frickers. You released a shitload of lazy sequels and saturated the market. How the hell can they not understand that OF COURSE sales will tail off when that happens?

It happens in movies too. Like they'll make big fat POS like Catwoman or Supergirl, they tank, and then they go "Oh I guess nobody wants to see a female led superhero movie" instead of making one that's actually good. Or say an actor is in a string of financial disappointments like Clive Owen/Ryan Reynolds they suddenly decide "Well obviously he is box office poison" instead of admitting they made trash movies that he happened to be in. No put the dudes in well written movies with competent directors and you'll make money. It's not that hard.

Drives me insane at how the jackasses running the companies can never admit they are fault for making a crappy product.

I disagree. The switch is an amazing handheld. But it will not be a true console until they get a minimum development of apps (i.e. Netflix and Internet Browser), a proper travel dock, and a commitment to bring in third party games.

I think by the end of 2018 we will see if they are going to fix where they have gone wrong since the n64.

By releasing the New Switch 3D Plus!

I do hope the "upgraded" dock is the way they go.

That's a really obtuse set of requirements.

By this measure the Super Nintendo isn't a console.

Eh. Do that many people use consoles instead of dedicated streamers, sticks, etc.? It's a nice bonus, but I have 3 TV's, 2 consoles...and every TV either has streaming via the TV or a stick or dedicated device.

This would have to be define. I assume this means "AAA third party games at the same time as Sony/MS consoles." And that's a little unfair. If we're talking about just 3rd party activity, it's actually quite strong now. Skyrim, Fifa, Doom, Wolfenstein, Bayonetta, Mario+Rabbids, Payday 2, Dark Souls, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary+Ultra, is not a bad lineup.

Going to be hard to continue that success in 2018 with no system seller games. Nintendo needs to show Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3 at E3.

I don’t think it will be. Hardly anyone bought the Wii U, so I’d keep porting Wii U’s games over to the Switch this year. Wii U had an excellent library and I will rebuy some games (like Tropical Freeze) simply due to it being now portable. End the year with Super Smash Bros Deluxe, add 8 new fighters, and combine all aspects of both original games including the stages, and I think you’ve got a good year buffer for 2019. Maybe even Mario Maker 2 with the two console New Super Mario Bros packed in as well. In 2019 hopefully we’ll get Pokémon, Metroid, and Fire Emblem, and then in 2020 make the sequels to Zelda and Mario with the same engine. All this seems to be working heavily in the Switch’s favor.

???

The mini direct was great:

Mario Tennis
Donkey Kong:TF
Dark Souls
Hyrule Warriors (was 1million+ on the WiiU)

I'd say Tennis and Warriors can push units, BotW will feed Hyrule Warriors (I'll be picking it up for the first time since I only borrowed it on the Wii U). Throw in Dark Souls, Kirby, and even The World Ends with You (had a big run on portables) and I think that lineup is very strong going into E3.

And yeah E3 will get at least one big late 2018 announcement. It's either going to be Animal Crossing, Smash, Fire Emblem and/or Bayonetta.

I think E3 will either announce a Smash Port for late 2018, or Smash 5 for 2019/20. 1 of the 2.

Metroid and Pokemon will be 2019's big releases we'll hear about in the fall to keep pushing units.

The roster for Smash is now so fricking big that I’d rather they just spit out what we got last time, combine the two games, and add 8 fighters and a few more stages, add back Tournament Mode, and all DLC characters perminantly added to the roster. Seriously, they could charge $100 for that game and people would buy it given how much crap would be in that game.
