Tencent looking to acquire Ubisoft

Apparently Tencent is in talks to acquire Ubisoft.
Normally gaming acquisitions are bad but this is probably an exception.
Hopefully if this happens Tencent just cleans house and turns their IP's over to better leadership and development teams.

I don't know if I agree with this, in the short term they suck for sure, lot of people will lose their jobs, a lot of creative work will be cancelled.
However, I think that what will happen is a lot of the talented people will start new independent studios and release new ip in the next 7 years. I view this as the possibility of being more cyclical with a flood of new studios opening in the next couple of years than a linear progression to only a small handful of super big software developers. That's my hope at least.
As for Tencent, IDK how I feel about a Chinese owning the license to all Tom Clancy IP. Though, maybe we will finally see a Splintercell again.

I can’t imagine this would be feasible for Tencent who already faces heightened regulatory scrutiny. Half of Ubi’s problems are contractual. They’re bloated, and much of that is a result of being a French company. The rest is their obligation to check marks required to satisfy all the grant money and tax credits claimed in other regions.
It would be more logical that they’re acquired the same way Corsair just took over Fanatec. They’ll ultimately need PE money and will be required to use their IP as collateral. As soon as that money runs out the company will be liquidated and the PE firm will walk away with the IP.

It seems like the solution for Ubisoft would be "just release good games" that people actually want.
Since last gen, they've had a penchant for releasing game after game that absolutely no one asked for and then continuing to throw money at abject failures (DLC, content updates, etc).
No one on the planet asked for TWO sequels to The Crew, The Crew with Mountain Bikes and Snowboards, a BotW clone set in Ancient Greece, a Rainbow Six co-op shooter featuring aliens, or a CoD clone.
Even that new Prince of Persia game, while good, isn't what people were asking for.

Seriously. It baffles me that a studio that once put out great games can become so impossibly disconnected from their audience that they say yep, this is the way forward. To do that once, sure. But to do it like ten times in a row is utterly insane.

I mean they've lost like 90% of their stock.
I don't even care anymore, nor do most of us. Keep your DEI bullshite where it belongs.

My favorite Ubisoft fail the last few years was when their developers were actually trying to shite talk Elden Ring.
Which lead to one of the best memes ever that captures everything wrong with modern gaming.
Elden Ring if it were made by Ubisoft
