Still playing, got Rey to 5* and she is a beast.
Highest 2 are Lumi at 7* and Phasma at 6*.
Got Fives the other day. I'm building him up, he is pretty legit.

Update is live. Here is what I think I've figured out so far.
The new stat "protection" adds a bar above your health bar. It has to be depleted before your health starts dropping. You get protection at a certain gear level, and gearing up increases it by a LOT.
Your opponents in arena have protection, but enemies in other game modes do not. Also, neither you nor your enemies have protection in GW, I think.
I haven't played much yet, but I do know that the STR challenge just got a WHOLE lot harder. Used to be a cakewalk, now I get demolished.

Yup. I usually just set it to Auto and collect my rewards. Whelp I check my phone and it said defeated. I thought to myself "stupid AI." Tried it again by myself and Tarkin made my arse quit. He took out all 5 of my guys with his one AoE.

Yeah it seems their health pools got larger 30k hit use to 1 shot them but now it is nearly taking 1/4 of their life, I guess it could be the change to advantage that happened. Arena seems easier, since defense is much more important now St Han and chewie as lead help a lot. Some of the nodes I was working on the light and dark side battles became pretty impossible now too. Many people on the official forums are qqing to hell. Something will change.

Man, these devs should have taken baby steps instead of doing this massive overhaul. Protection seems kind of silly, just an extension of health that can't be healed. I'm going to give it a few more days, but only because I have maxed out Kylo and Han to carry my team in the meantime.
I guess my recently maxed QGJ will be riding the bench for a while. Sid also feels pretty worthless now. I guess I will start farming more tanks to build a "frustration" team. It might go a little something like this:
Kylo - plenty health, DoT, AoE, counters
Phasma(L) - good health, assist chance for everyone, turn meter manipulation for both sides, gives team advantage (guaranteed crit)
Han - health a little on the low side, but crazy turn meter manipulation makes him worth it
Fives - tons of health, turn meter manipulation, assists, counters
Magmatrooper - good health, multi-attacks, AoE, turn meter manipulation
Then I will have Lumi on the side to sub in for someone if for some reason those guys just don't have enough health.
So I have Kylo and Han, and my Phasma just needs a little bit more gear. I have stopped my other GW farms and will switch over to Magmatrooper, and I need to work on Fives over in Cantina shipments. Hopefully in a couple weeks (if I last that long) I will have a team that nobody can beat in arena in less than 5 minutes.
Total team health is pretty high, but none of these guys have much power output. I'm hoping that won't matter because of all the extra attacks I'll get. Phasma and Kylo will call assists 40% of the time, while everyone else will call them 20% of the time. Fives will call an assist on his own an additional 25% of the time. Magmatrooper attacks twice 65% of the time. Kylo will have his counterattack turned on a portion of the fight (depending on how often he gets attacked), and Fives counters 85% of the time. Then on top of the extra attacks, I will have Phasma and Fives throwing out speed down, Magma and Han removing enemy turn meter, and Phasma and Han boosting friendly turn meters...
Sounds like a plan to me.

After all the backlash, the devs pushed out an update to fix some of the stuff they broke. Also handed out a lot of free gear.

At least they listened to their customers.
I finally got fives maximized. He is the only one that an make it through GW without losing his protection.
Not liking the protection at all. As you stated earlier , it is basically life you can't heal.

I can get thru gw with my A team fine with the new things. I use three healers just takes maybe 15 minutes more than before. Arena is much easier now, I have hit 1st on my server 3 times since the update.

i can't simply hit auto anymore. my healers don't heal when they should (like they used to), one of my big advantages which kept me in the 75%+ win (estimated), was that i had great HP and healers (three that hit pretty hard). i got dick now because none of them have high HP anymore. they basically go into a fight and can't be healed past 60% (estimated). yesterday i was w/l/d in my three daily battles. today? l/l in my first 2. why? 'cause once the protection is gone, three heavy hitters can take a guy out.
anyway, frick this game. i'll probably play until i can get yoda to 7* then...?

All level 70+.
So I use those 12 to mix and match two pretty good teams for GW. I also have 10 or so toons at 4* and 5* (but low gear) that I put in when I think I can take out one opponent so that one of my top teams can go in 5 on 4 afterward. I have another 20 toons at low stars and levels that I put in as suicide squads to put my opponents on cooldown, but usually they all just die when Sid hits his AoE so that's the only special on cooldown.
And I haven't been able to beat node 11 or 12 since the protection update. It's pretty frustrating.

i haven't even tried to beat the GW since the update. i get my 400 GW credits, buy my 5 shards and GTFO. just getting those 400 is hard enough.
i'm lvl 73 but don't have any toons up that high.
