Online passes are restrictions on selling, trading, etc. If someone knows they will have to also purchase a $15 pass doesn't that diminish the games value?

You know what they mean. You are free to trade, loan, sell, or keep the disc forever.

Here's an interesting question, IMO. Does MS come out and say that since they will be charging a fee, game publishers can't? Of course not. By holding to this policy, they double whammy anybody who buys a game with an online pass. And do THEY get a kickback as well?

It's also a bad business model to lose sales to used games. Which do you think hurts them more? Missing out on a share of a multi million dollar used game market or upsetting a few people that will still buy their games anyway?

But if they do that on top of MS charging a fee of their own, that won't go over well.

Where is the rule written that they can't just have it on the PS4 version to compensate?

Honestly I had no idea so many people were buying used games. All new games here.

If say Activision already knows it will get a kickback on an Xbox used game then why would they add an online pass to the Xbox version? It's covered for them already.

Not saying they won't or can't but it just seems far fetched it would happen. Maybe some wishful thinking on my part.

rentals here... I have a 2 game subscription to gamefly...if you really haven't tried it you should.

$24 a month for 2 and like $14-17 for 1 game. I go through so many games that I end up saving a ton of money.

I though Xbox said they would allow rentals already?

The way they have control over their disc and DRM it's very feasible that they can make rental capable copies of a game just for Gamefly and Redbox.

A small publisher won't do it IMO but you think an Activision or EA won't? It would be evening the market out on that IP.

Activision would be prime for it since they know people are going to buy CoD anyway to the tune of a billion dollars within the first month of release like the past 4 have done. That's a lot of money left on the table by them considering how many copies are traded and resold.

I'm not super business savy myself, but I would think that a company like Sony would be very interested what deal EA strikes with MS, wanting to make sure that a game isn't less appealing on their system, not counting pre-order bonuses.

"So you're not going to charge a fee with MS, but you will with us? That doesn't look good."

The consumer, us, isn't too bothered about what anyone gets as far as a kickback. We just know what we are paying. And I would think EA charging a fee with Sony to "cover" would set a precedent with other publishers that Sony wouldn't be too keen on.

I have seen so much information in the last 2 days I can't honestly remember what the current status of rentals is on the xbone.

They are making it harder from what I remember.

Thanks. I couldn't remember. It's still feasible for them to have disc only made for rentals. Probably would cost Redbox and Gamefly more money upfront or base a fee on the number of times that disc is used on a different machine.

Possibly but IMO a brand new console needs EA, Activision, and Ubisoft maybe more than the reverse is true. They could be upset about it but they still need those multi plat games to move hardware and collect licensing fees.

If Sony had a falling out with EA over it and it led to only getting BF4 on PC and Xbox what do you think that would do to Sony? People will buy hardware their fav games are on which is why everyone was so worried about exclusives.

EA loses money on that as well, losing a platform, but you are probably right that the console needs them more. And maybe EA isn't too bothered by this, but that would be another image hit as well.

I think there are two sides to that argument.

EA is now apparently the #1 worst company in the world ( ),so not only would putting about a previously multiplat game on one consoles not help their cause, but it would be bad for buisness...more so than not doing online DRM.

I do agree that PS needs EA more than EA needs PS, but they are both losing lots of money if it goes to one console.

So Ps4 or Xbox One.About to pre-order. And what does each console come with in the box? And are they both 500GB?
