The service, code-named Spartacus, will allow PlayStation owners to pay a monthly fee for access to a catalog of modern and classic games, said the people, who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak to the press about the plans.

When it launches, expected in the spring, the service will merge Sony’s two existing subscription plans, PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now.

Details on Spartacus may still not be finalized, but documentation reviewed by Bloomberg outlines a service with three tiers. The first would include existing PlayStation Plus benefits. The second would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and, eventually, PlayStation 5 games. The third tier would add extended demos, game streaming and a library of classic PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.

I’d be all over that. I love GamePass

I love Gamepass, but this would really depend on if they are going to have their first party games on the service or not.
If I can pay a monthly fee and have God of War and Horizon, then I am in.

I'll accept all of it.

Yeah, exclusives dropping on their release date is critical to compete with Xbox.

They see the writing on the wall. They know that the future is cloud gaming and a subscription service like Gamepass.
Problem is, Microsoft has vastly more in resources that will make their product superior in almost every way. On top of that they have PCs they can port games to. In 10 years there won’t be an Xbox console. It will just be “Xbox Gaming” subscription service like Netflix where all games are streamed through an app on your TV or iPad instead of downloaded. That on top of them being able to buy just about any game developer they want means Sony’s days are numbered.

As long as the pricing is competitive and it comes to Steam, I'm in

isn't PSNow a cloud service? sony has had that for a whole generation. not new releases, but i don't see why they couldn't offer the same thing. even a PC platform like steam, origin, epic games, etc. with apps on the apple tv, firestick, roku, etc.

That is a good question. In the last generation console space the safe answer is Playstation. They followed PS and made games the most important piece.
Their R&D and imagineering is well beyond what Sony can think up. I would say future xbox is following forces beyond console gaming within the Microsoft universe.

Well now. I guess they finally figured out they were way behind the times.

No doubt, was about time both moved on from console games targeted at kids, to adults with PC's.
Hopefully consoles vanish in the future and are just mini ITX PC's. Be the best thing for the industry.

I guess it all depends on pricing, but at first glance I don't understand why the second and third tiers would be separate.

Count me out as I don't give two shits about old games.
Just make new games on PC.

Mean while my roommates new Xbox is dead and waiting to get fixed while I continue to play my ps5.
Similar happened years ago too.

It definitely does seem like they aren't releasing games day and date of release on this. The "PS5 games soon" part of this leak is pretty deflating. Maybe the actual announcement will be different.
