man, the graphics and games are phenomenal! plus i got the X for a steal for 400$! I’ve played PS5 and i really like it too, but this Series X is on a different level IMO. loving gaming again. Game Pass is also fricking great

Agreed. Series X is an incredible system.

I don't have either, but I was under the impression that the PS5 and Series X were roughly equivalent re: graphical performance. Is that not true?

The series x has a 10% faster CPU and 20% more powerful GPU than the PS5. And remember, this is a apples to apples comparison since they are both running on identical custom AMD APU architecture, so performance numbers will scale identically. The only real difference is die size (how big the actual microchip is) with the Series x having and 18% larger surface area to pack more GPU transistors and CUs, 14.5 million and 52 CUs vs 10.3 million and 36 CUs. The Xbox series x has their gpu clock is locked at 1.8ghz and the PS5 can reach up to 2.2ghz, the higher clock rate is what allows the PS5 to close the distance back down to about 20% less graphics performance. The Xbox series x could in theory be overclocked to a similar clock rate in the future that the PS5 is at, 2.2ghz, but this would require a redesign on its cooling system and power supply. Both of which would require a changes to be made in a later iteration of the series x. The benefits of this would probably be a 40% overall increase in power over the PS5 vs the current 20%.
TLDR: the Xbox series x is significantly more powerful than the PS5 but due to design choices it is only about 20% more powerful.

Again, I have no horse in this race, but after a few minutes of poking around on YouTube for performance comparisons, I’m not seeing anything close to a 20% real world uplift. Depending on the title, it has the two consoles basically trading blows within 5% of one another. Is the Series X running at a markedly higher resolution like-for-like?

How dare you speak ill of the PS5, I can hear the thundering footsteps of PlayStation fanboys rushing to the aid of their beloved console.

Well this will not end well for this board.
The only thing left for Playstation is their 1st party games, which is "currently" superior to Xbox. Everything else is Xbox
Gamepass
Horsepower
UI
Cloud Network and Infrastructure
Long term vision
Game studio acquisitions

You’ve been saying this since forever yet Sony is still here. Something isn’t adding up.

They’re both great systems; never understood the “console war” nonsense.
Personally I got the PS5 for the exclusives but the SeriesX is awesome and most enthusiasts end up with both.

There are so many factors that would make real world performance similar. First off, I'm most situations a 20% bump in performance will be un noticeable in real world situations. For example, say the game is locked at 60fps between Xbox and playstation. The Xbox could run the game at 80fps and the PlayStation is running at 65fps. But both lock the framerate at 60 fps so they look identical in real world scenarios. The only time you would notice a difference is in super busy scenes when there are tons of assets. In this scene the series x could be running 60fps still while the PS5 crashed down to 45fps which will now be noticable.
Another time you will notice it more is when the systems are getting close to end of life and they are each trying to stretch out every last bit of performance from aging hardware. The series x with it's higher performance will eek the PS5 out here also.

Yes. Differences are negligible.
The real differences is Game Pass and better backward compatibility for the Xbox Series.

I’m still rocking the 360 and NCAA ‘14

Well in a genius move, Microsoft will have to spend this entire generation hamstringing all it's games so that they'll work on the series S.
So the X is definitely faster, unlikely it will ever be used however.

That's entirely untrue. The series s is plenty capable of playing all the titles the series x is at a lower resolution and framerate. Since the 2 systems are beiilt on identical architecture and operating system the only difference between games on the series s and series x will be resolution, framerate, and the games graphics slider.
The current generation of consoles are gaming PCs with custom operating systems. The PC game industry has been tailoring their games to a massive range of PC hardware for decades. The series s is a mid range PC and the series x is a high end PC, tweek the graphics settings, lower your resolution and your good to go. The PC community have been doing this forever. You can play modern AAA PC titles in 1080p 60fps on 9 year old potato PC which I have, or in 4k 120fps on beast rigs like also have.

I mean, they are under NDA so i'm not sure who told you that. But it's entirely true, and studio's have been bitching relentlessly to Microsoft about it. They are trying to help but it won't be enough.

Eh? 3 times faster? Anyway, you keep talking about graphics and the biggest complaint right now is memory. So i'm really wondering why you think i'm making untrue statements.

Based on what I've seen, I would say low-mid and high-mid range, respectively. Though we might simply define "high end PC" differently. But a system with an RTX 3080/6800xt would crush a Series X, to say nothing of systems with something like a 3090ti.

I have a 3080ti rig and a 1070 rig

And I would think you’re not trying to say that an Xbox that pulls a maximum of 200w can approach the performance of your 3080ti rig.

Absolutely not. But it is still a good comparison to compare my 2 PCs against a series x and s. Also a series x is going to have graphics similar to a 3070.

I don't disagree, and I understood the analogy. I just didn't necessarily agree with the Series X being equivalent to a "high end" gaming rig.

This I'm not sure about, either. It's not something I follow, because I don't game on console, but I recall some major tech youtubers clocking it in closer to a 2070 Super at best for rasterization, and a bit lower with raytracing enabled. But I could be misremembering.
