F Dark Souls and I own two of the games. Like I said a lot of games that are popular on here that aren't my style. But Skyrim had a stickied thread and the W3 thread and multiple threads on here were insane.

what kind of difference are you getting from pre built to build your own at any budget?

has pre-built become competitive enough that you only see a minor upgrade in power and savings by building your own or are you going to get a really significantly more powerful machine at the same price tage building your own still?

i am really really thinking about get a new system soon with a budget around 2-2.5 likely. I'm getting too old and grumpy to learn how to build one from scratch potentially

Pre built will never compare to building yourself. Pre built computers cut a corner on this component to beef up another one. When you deal shop for your parts you can get a much better computer for the price when you build.

Prebuilts only make financial sense in times of extreme component rarity, which we aren't currently in, though it's possible we see a return to it a bit with next gen GPU launches. Outside of that, DIY will practically always be better, and usually significantly so.

And building is, honestly, extremely easy. And I say that as someone who built their first computer a couple of years ago. Building a parts list can be complicated as shite, but we can absolutely help with that

ETA: Beyond immediate price difference, the major difference between prebuilt and DIY is that DIY systems tend to be able to be upgraded far longer, as prebuilts tend to cut corners on the less sexy components like motherboard, PSU, and case. So you not only save money on the front end, but you continue saving money due to the longer life of the system.

My problem after a build is I get obsessed with seeing how far I can push it with OCs and spend a ton of time messing with it. I got that last build up pretty high on the 3D Mark rankings at the time.

Haha well sure, but that's the hobby aspect. You would likely do the same thing with a prebuilt

I might hold off and do a build over the summer.

The absolute worst thing about building for me.

Need a freaking magnifying glass to read the MOBO.

I fricking hate front panel connectors. Which, incidentally, is part of why I generally don't plug many of them in

That's a good prebuilt, but can't OC the F CPU.

I wouldn’t worry about that.

i just built a pc recently for the first time. way easier than i expected. pick out a bunch of parts that fit the butdget, plug into pcpartpicker to make sure everything is compatable...

then just youtube building a pc with x motherboard and x pc case and follow along.

My PC just died yesterday so I went looking today.

Electronics are so expensive here despite ASUS being from here

Oh well, will probably have to drop $2k on a decent gaming rig

Finch's suggestion is good, but the extra $500 is a big difference, wait a day or so for the 2K budget suggestions.

Is it even legal not to build your own PC in Taiwan?

ugh i guess ill plan to do that. i just really hate working with electronics and tight spaces in general. i know some people get joy out of building, thats not gonna be me but if a prebuilt of the same price is going to be way weaker i'll force myself.
