I guess John Linneman was right about the use of PSSR 2.0 in RE9

fricking incredible game. Gameplay is super interesting and terrifying as Grace and then just stupid amounts of fun with Leon. Both actors are killing it.

Graphics are amazing. Story is solid. 9/10 from me so far but I think I’m only halfway so it could get better or worse but goddamn they nailed this one, at least to me.

Lots of people saying it's the best looking game they've played and that the voice work is stellar. Man I cant wait

It’s all of those things and more. I’m just really impressed. I liked Village and Biohazard but I’m def more of a RE2 and RE4 kind of guy. I just prefer third person more overall as a gamer. And they’ve somehow managed to have a game that’s the best of both worlds and I don’t just mean with the third and first person style. They really nailed getting you scared and having a true survival horror with Grace while also giving you these badass, action horror sections with Leon. Just awesome.

I was worried the Grace sections would be underwhelming compared to Leon but not only is she a great character but they found great ways to make her fun to play in different ways than Leon. Excited for you to try it Carson.

Glowing recommendation. Can't wait. Gonna finish Crisol this afternoon and then fire it up.

Not to derail, but how are you liking it?

It’s fine for its price point. Really good art design, plays mechanically just like RE8, cool world with lots of collectibles.

On the flip side: really bad voice acting, only like 5 enemy types, some absolute dogshit puzzles, and tedious “find 4 doodads to advance” gimmick in every single area

Currently pissed off bc I should’ve gotten the plat but my last trophy is bugged. A ton of trophies have issues based on what I’m reading, so guess I got lucky with the others

The actress for Grace was absolutely awful. A true example of how overacting can bring down storytelling.

On the flip side, I thought the voice actor for Gideon did a phenomenal job. He saved it from being a bad game. The character was so well written too.

I also thought the zombies were designed well and acted well. They all had their own unique personalities and didn’t play into the trope of mindless drones. Their mannerisms and the way they spoke, particularly the janitor zombie and singer zombie, gave off huge BioShock vibes. I loved it.

I was talking about the voice acting in Crisol, not RE9

Grace overacts a bit, but I think she’s doing a good job overall. Leon is trying too hard to sound tough/grizzled. Gideon is awesome

Just rolled credits an hour or so ago and started a play through on insanity difficulty that unlocks.

A few things

This is one of the best main line RE games, it’s easily the best since 4. 9/10 overall imo. Not quite as good as RE4Make but on the same level of quality as RE2Make. It’s also not overly difficult at least until you unlock insanity mode which is one of the most oppressive RE difficulty modes I’ve ever played. It’s more difficult than starting a fresh game of 4make on professional. I love it

Insanity mode is the most ridiculously stupid (in a good way) difficulty spike I may have ever seen in video game history. In addition to the increased difficulty it also changes item locations, puzzle mechanics and answers, as well as does the mechanic from RE3 OG where it completely randomizes minor items locations

When you beat the game all the challenges unlock so you can see what they are. The last one is still being figured out by the community at large, and still as of me typing this hasn’t been solved, it’s named “the final puzzle”

I swapped out my ps5’s OG internal 500gb to a 2Tb one that bought.
I think a few years ago when I did it, it was like $150 or so, can’t remember exactly.
Probably cheaper now.
But with that, and a 2TB external, it makes console gaming life way easier.

Been playing through it slower than normal, caught the stomach flu and have been busy with work.

I'm like maybe 1/3 of the way through Leon's campaign if I had to guess.

Absolutely loving it so far. The two campaigns work awesomely together. Even though it's action heavy Leon's parts are still extremely tense and demanding.

Either this game is much harder than past RE games or I suck now. I am on Standard Classic and dying more than I do on Hardcore modes in past RE games.

There are tons more enemies, the enemies are way more fast and aggressive and tanky. With Grace you really do have to mostly evade and with Leon you really do have to kill the enemies with strategy rather than just guns blazing.

The only gripe I have is the ever creeping modern gaming chattiness. Hate all the "HOLY CRAP WHAT IS THAT?" type lines in the big moments, it would be scarier without that. Capcom has also begun adopting chattiness as a way to doing handholding you can't f'ing turn off. They literally design he lines for people with 20 second attention spans.

It's not as bad as other offenders but it's noticeable now and has gotten progressively worse.

Regardless, game is still spectacular.

Amazing game. I just left RPD as Leon. I don’t want it to end.

I just finished it, I have a lot of thoughts but I really can't give a meaningful review without touching on spoilers.

Apparently the 2nd thread is for spoilers so that's where it is.
