Interesting that they really would not comment on Xbox, just kept saying that Sony has made huge advancements in their SSD technology while also saying that the engine will work great on "all next generation consoles". Makes me wonder if Sony might have sponsored this is some way, maybe they sponsored the demo?
Probably has more to do with the PS5 having double the power in that area.

Goofy title, consoler.

Here’s why a certain someone is melting.

Reason why I keep saying the title is goofy. It misleads the uninformed that this is inclusive when it is just the a demo based on Unreal's engine running on mid-range graphics.
Sort of, definitions are required.
It is the same hardware, just how it is used in terms of games.

SSDs have been replaced by NVMEs already. As someone who primarily games on PC and Switch its pretty hilarious to me to see all these Sony and Xbox fanboys argue over something they have no knowledge about. These graphics and rendering are nice and all but death stranding was trash and it was one of the most gorgeous games of this generation.

NVME is an SSD.
Both consoles use NVME M.2 drives.
The PS5 has the fastest we've seen yet because it's a custom chip just for the PS5 with two I/O controllers for a 5.5K IO throughput (More than double XBSX's 2.4K) which is bonkers.
This about as close as you are going to get for the fastest consumer one available
You'd have to be on AMD's latest platform with an X570 board to have PCIE 4.0 right now.

And M.2 is a interface form factor.
Stop acting like any of the hardware is new.

No, sort of, it doesn't exactly describe that hardware but that communication.
So stop being a a smart arse.

I'm a bit of a stranger to the technology underlying video games, so please excuse the ignorance of my question, but does that demo represent what actual games on the PS5 will look like? It was incredible. It resembled a movie, not a video game. I would love to play a game that looked that way.

don't expect games to look like that for quite some time.

Why? Not disputing your point at all, just wondering what the explanation is.

Well maybe not this year, but Unreal Engine 5 is set to be implemented in games by late 2021, so we could see some games developers utilizing it in 2022.

Well the engine isnt even out in a preview state yet, much less full release. that probably wont be for another year or 2. These demos are ridiculously optimized, fun-sized portions of gameplay designed solely to promote the engine. there's no extraneous game stuff that you'd have in a regular game, so basically every corner is cut to show off the visuals. It's not feasible to build and optimize an entire 20hr game with this level of quality and detail. Imagine how big the download would be. Some nerd on reddit put it like this - if you expect even 50% of games to look like this, you'll be greatly disappointed.
I've said it before in other threads, but don't expect a huge visual bump right now. Instead, the real innovations will be in the form of no loading screens, basically 0 boot time, multiple apps/games running concurrently with 0 hangups, etc. Wrap your head around this: I read somewhere that devs were having to implement artificial loading screens because it was so jarring for testers to die and then be at a checkpoint instantaneously
Hopefully we can start seeing some next-level visuals in 3-5 years, or perhaps even sooner with Horizon Zero Dawn 2. That Decima engine is smokin. I just really hope we start to see 60fps as a baseline on consoles, though I wont get my hopes up

Please watch the video in the link I posted, we shouldn't need to explain but here we are....

Looks fricking amazing and of course there's a big fight in this thread over the technical aspects of Unreal Engine meanwhile I'm just here pretending to understand the video like, "ah yes of course triangles and polygons."
