What are you guys doing for storage space on your PS5’s?
With the large update files for Call of Duty MW and Cold War, I had to delete All other games off of my drive. With the inability of using an external SSD for PS5 games, this is going to be a problem

Y'all seriously can't connect an external SSD?

Or is it that you can't play off it?

As of right now, you can store and play PS4 games (on PS5) from an external HDD or SSD but not PS5 games due to load times . Technically I could put MW on an external drive but I don’t want to buy a drive that will only be a short term fix and won’t be compatible with PS5 games. Hopefully there is an update that will allow external SSD’s to work

Gotcha. I assume copying/moving between devices wouldn't take too long right? I just got the new xbox and can move games back and forth within a minute or so. Keeps my internal storage relatively wide open and allows for all updates to occur without forcing me to move or delete anything I'm not currently playing.

Seems to be the same for XBox unless you buy the official expansion card for the console. But $200+ for 1TB ain't really something I'm interested in.

I don't think you can do this with PS5 games. I would be happy if just this was a solution.

You can do it with PS4 games and take advantage of shorter loading times for some games.

this seems a bit ridiculous that I can do this on an old arse system but not on the newest one.

I wont be buying one until they fix this crap or expand the hd on newer models.

You cant transfer ps5 games to an external hd. Only ps4 games can be transferred back and forth.

So when I play backwards compatible games I have to save everything to the external hard drive? I gotta say, WTF was Sony thinking only putting 845 gigs on the ps5 with these restrictions

No. You can play PS4 off of wherever you want. PS5 games have to be played off of the SSD since the games were made with it in mind

Honest question I do not know answer to - Will you be able to play XSX specific games off external storage?

Sony and Microsoft approached it two different ways obviously, but will relying on SSD speed to make up for GPU hurt in the long run as games get even larger?

Curious about this as well^

I’ve got Cold War for XSX but I’m honestly not sure if it’s downloaded to one of my externals or the console.

No clue. PS5’s SSD being custom designed may be one of the causes. They have an expansion NVME slot and I’m not sure if that one will be able to play PS5 games either

That is the plan from what I've read. There is an expansion bay but it can't be used right now until it's updated.

No, you can not play a series x off if external storage....put you can copy it to\from external to internal. You can't do that with ps5. If you have an external shell
D it only takes about 5 min
