Are these people scum of the earth, or do you respect their hustle? Guys in my area have them listed on marketplace for $1500, and has been listed since release.

Come off the price dawggg--we just wanna get our game on!

If people will buy it for that price, why not sell it for that price?

Shouldn't the goal always be to maximize profits?

This one in particular is not selling. He is just basically holding it ransom hoping that someone gets desperate enough. He is also essentially taking a risk, being that he could easily sell it for a quick $200-$300 profit right now--for all we know Sony could dump thousands of these things back into the market tomorrow. Unlikely, yes,

If someone bought their PS5 legitimately I have no problem

90% of these dudes run bots and purchase a frick to and sell em, fricking over everyone else trying to buy one.

I got my pre order through Sony. I posted it on Craigslist for $1,200 two weeks ago. I game a good bit, but if someone is either stupid enough to pay that or got a lot of money, I would’ve sold it.

I was offered the next day $650. That is less than $100 profit after tax. Not worth it.

I have been playing it and never thought about not opening to maximize profit.
I’m keeping it.

It sucks but I respect it. As a shoe collector I’m not surprised this has shifted over to consoles.

The bots for that is f***ing ridiculous. I have gotten one dub on Snkrs and it pisses me the hell off.

Shoe companies have to have a deal with Stockx/GOAT, otherwise why not just mass produce the highly in-demand shoes and make more money off of it?

It does raise the question: why don't Sony/Microsoft and also GPU vendors so anything about the bots?

Because when stocks are out demand will go up even more. It's now even more rare and hard to obtain.

It's fricked, but just be patient and wait til Feb/March and I think there will be availability.

Not even sure what the companies could do outside of in-store only purchasing.

Botting would disappear if scalpers would start losing money. Not going anywhere as long as there are enough clowns paying ridiculous resale prices.

You gotta admire their hustle.

They likely spent many hours and a lot of energy securing the PS5's in the first place.

They also had to tie up their capital to do so.

It's nothing personal, this sort of flipping goes on for any item that's in limited quantities. It's just a by product of scarce resource allocation.

You could argue they actually provide a service for the people willing to pay the premium prices. If there were no resellers and you desperately wanted a PS5 the odds of you securing one from a store are slim. You may have to wait several months.

With resellers you're guaranteed to get one immediately. That's a service people are willing to pay for.

There's way more people who want a PS5 than there are PS5's.

There has to be some sort of method of allocating them.

The secondary market provides an allocation method beyond random chance.
