Seeing quite a few posts about performance issues. These legit or just a few whiners?

My wife and I enjoyed playing through Sword and these looked similar in playstyle.

Quaxly ftw

Most resistances of all starters when fully evolved.

Game runs very poorly, but GameFreak has had technically issues on every 3D game they've made. They're just not very good at making HD games.

It's legit. I only played for about an hour last night and could already tell the performance is gonna suck. Low frame rates and a lot of pop ins in the starter area alone. Graphically it's just not a pretty game.

All that being said though the gameplay is fun and being able to go wherever you want right off the bat is an exciting new dynamic for the game.

Damn, I completely forgot this was coming out and got excited. Now I’m unsure if I’ll buy it.

I wonder if it can be fixed after all the poor feedback

Little STLDawg and I are going to be enjoying this this weekend. I remember 20 years ago, I was too big for my britches to play Pokemon any more. Things change

There are performance issues but I’ve still been enjoying it. I’m sure there will be patches to improve things

Yeah, the building textures are of such low quality that they stick out. The human character models stutter a bit too. The Pokemon themselves look pretty good though.

I'm rocking a team of all Paldean Pokemon except Fletchling currently. The rest are Tarountula, Lechonk, Paldean Wooper, Sprigatito, and Pawmi. I'm interested to see their evolutions (going in no spoilers).

The open world also is pretty much what I dreamed of playing since the first time I played Pokemon Red all those years ago.

It’s such a weird experience

On one hand, imo this is the definitive Pokémon game. Literally they finally put it all together

On the other hand, this is one of the worst performing games I’ve ever played, especially when docked. Seriously I’m getting like 20fps constantly if docked.

Like the quality of games since going 3D.

I had decided I was too cool for pokemon after Gen 1 growing up and waited until my 20s to admit that wasn't the case. Played through Ultra Sun and Y and thought they were ok even if I thought they had made them a little too easy and linear. That is until I played Black and Black 2.

Black 2 black-pilled (haha) me on the state of Pokemon. It is the absolute peak of the franchise and everything after it has been downhill. I say this as someone who hadn't even played Gen V until a little over a week ago. The post-game of Black 2 has more content than the main story of the newer gens by itself. It's sad for me to see Pokemon fans happily lapping up the hollow shite that comes out now while they're getting crumbs in comparison to the games they used to be getting.

If you guys liked Sword/Shield or Arceus you'd be fine with this.

The graphics are very much in line with Sun/Moon Sword/Shield, with the distance drawing issues of Arceus. Things may get visually glitchy here and there but the game isn't crashing all the time like Sword/Shield did to me. I haven't had it crash once, even when the grass gym's quest bogged my frame rate down to a slide show.

A lot of the concepts are like Sword/Shield - fast travel works the same, there are raid nodes where you can do a 4 man raid or "solo" it and they'll auto-fill the other 3 spots with NPCs. The whole map is like one big wild area where you can just sort of wander and do whatever, pick up items catch wild Pokemon. The Pokemon are visible in the world to be engaged.

I'm reading that at least Scarlet will feature multiplayer/co-op. My boys want a pokemon game, is this something they can play together on the same Switch?

It's not that kind of co-op. And you'd have to have two switches and two copies of the game (recommended one be Violet and one be Scarlet so you get access to all the version exclusives). And even then, it's just to see your friends while you play and engage in raids together, it's not true co-op. It's more like you each have your own experience with a little bit of overlap.

The game is very fun.

The performance makes it hard to enjoy.

At the best of times it is stuttering/hitching in the 20-27fps range. When you are in towns, caves, cities and otherwise polygon cluttered areas the game crawls below 20fps looking like a slideshow. It may be the worst performance 8 have EVER seen on a console game. It's bad. The pop in is also miserable. It's not just assets like bushes, trees and pokemon. Even the shadows pop in and out and flicker like crazy. I've yet to really find and bugs, but the performance is atrocious.

Pretty much sums up the game perfectly. The gameplay is the most fun (for me) that it's been in a long time and I didn't really enjoy Arceus or Sword/Shield. But you definitely have to fight the graphics to get that enjoyment.
