Is 31C too hot for idle temperatures? My PC has been running a fever lately and I haven't changed anything or enabled OC.

Depends on the chip and the type of cooling, and even then, idle temps aren't really reliable because most temperature readings are software-based.
That said, 31C is in the fairly wide range of normal for most any CPU. Test your load temps.

I got an opportunity to download Mai afterburner and check out a few things. I tested the settings on dayz because that's all I really play. The card temp never got over 40c. Average GPU usage was around 45-50%. Average frame rate was around 60 and that was on normal settings. Those were the stats after I over clocked it a bit. I watched a video and followed the same overclocking settings as a few other people used.

I've built several computers now, and I have no idea what those numbers mean. I'm assuming they're beastly
ETA: Speaking of, is there a book or resource out there to learn more about that kind of stuff? I feel like a poser when people talk computer x's and o's

Trust me I have no clue either. I was posting them as a reply for some help haha. Where do you run your pc to find out your score. Like you got 13k? Curious to see what I get.

Download 3dmark 11
LINK
Run it in stretched if you can get over 120fps. I think centered caps it at 120.

as far as OS goes, do you suggest win 7 or should i find the 8.1 on a torrent site? also, I assume using a VPN is smart when downloading from there?

For gaming, go 8.1.
Care to explain this? Because I and many others stayed on 7.

It doesn't make that much of a difference, but if you are starting from scratch anyway (and free
Then again, if you like 7 better, might as well stick with it.

Definitely a good enough reason to not get it.

No thank you.
Will wait for 10.
Been thinking about dual booting the 10 preview to check it out actually. Haven't yet though.

I have 8.1, but all I did was install classic shell to turn it back into the Win 7 interface. It does have better native security, is leaner and boots a bit faster, has a few extra task management and file search features that I like. Gaming wise, I see no benefit though.

I'm trying to decide between these cards.. Opinions on EVGA vs ASUS vs MSI GPUs?
ASUS GTX 970
EVGA GTX 970
MSI GTX 970
ASUS GTX 970
EVGA GTX 970
MSI GTX 970

Yeah and none of that is worth leaving 7 for, for me. This asus mobo has fastboot and boots in like 5 secs anyways, and as you said gaming no advantages.
Have you tried the 10 preview yet?

I'd go with the Asus Strix, DoUrden I believe has 2 of them.

That's the one I was leaning to
