Just go ahead and delid the 4770k
In case you've forgotten, I don't always know what you tools are talking about.
When you say delid do you just mean overclock the hell out of it?

nope, actually remove the integrated heat spreader(the metal thing on top of the PCB). Intel decided not to solder the IHS to the chip, and that causes the chip to run excessively hot. Especially, since the they put the voltage control regulators on the chip itself instead on the motherboard.
Here's a relevant video.

If using the hammer and vice method and following instructions, it is actually not nearly as scary as it looks.

First it was all like, "You're a fricking idiot!"
And now you want me to perform surgery on my CPU?

I wouldn't necessarily advocate doing it until you've become familiar with the more advanced overclocking features. After a certain point, overclocking Haswell is more than just Multiplier and vcore. A lot of people have ventured into liquid nitrogen for haswell overclocking, just for shits n giggles. Most of your motherboard's advanced features in the bios an onboard are meant for LN2/extreme custom loops and competitive overclocking, and as I said before, are the primary drivers of the board's price (built-in water block on the mosfets for a custom loop, voltage detection points, primary, secondary, and tertiary DRAM timing controls, initial/eventual PLL termination voltage, PCH IOC, PECI, BCLK amplitude, etc.)
And although I didn't purchase it when I delidded, Intel does have a $25 Performance Tuning Protection Plan that allows you to fry your CPU once and get a replacement. I'm not totally sure if it covers delidding though, since it's physically altering the CPU. Delidding definitely voids the warranty...
... unless you reglue the IHS with black adhesive and pretend it never happened.

I would love to get into LN2 eventually. I think it would be fun. I would need a shop to do it in though.

Awesome, I was going to tie it to the back of the car and just drive. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing.

I usually just throw mine in my backseat and drive. As long as you aren't doing flips in your car or going over a mountain you'll be fine
