I looked up Z87 vs the X79 platform and the consensus seemed to be if you're building at this point you may as well go Z87 since it's newer and the X79 is at the end of its cycle. If I didn't need a computer now, I might wait and go with the successor to the X79.

It looks like with Z97, a lot of the mid-range motherboards are shipping with on-board wireless AC.
