Much more logical than trying to justify it as a sensible purchase under a finite budget I have plenty of components with similar excessiveness (or they were at one point). If I had the money to burn, there'd be 4 780 tis in my rig. With solid platinum backplates inscribed "frick the starving children."

I didn't have shite to do today and was meaning to play some games. Instead this has been my day today

I never said I had an infinite budget, but I also never said I didn't have a damn good budget, which I do. If I want to get the Ti because I want what is arguably the best single GPU you can run then I'm fully able to do that. As a matter of fact, it's already made its way into the build list.

He was talking about me and my 780ti purchases and the fact that I got them solely because they were what I wanted.
Posted on 4/28/14 at 8:48 pm to VABuckeye
Earlier I asked him if the ti was worth the price difference over a regular 780 so I thought he was potentially being a smartass about it.

To clarify:
1. The 780 Ti is indeed the best single GPU for gaming on the market.
2. The 780 Ti's price far exceeds its additional performance compared to the next best GPU (regardless of brand).
3. There's nothing wrong with wanting the best. It's just important to understand that if you were indeed working with a particular budget, your performance may suffer if you have to skimp on something else just so you can afford the extra $100 for 5-8% additional GPU performance. If going all-premium for each part, then of course you will want to top it off with the best card.
Coyote, for example, always gets the best of the best (or close to it) for his main build -- Caselabs case, Corsair Dominator platinum, all SSDs, Intel Enthusiast platform, etc. And of course, he has a few overclocked 780 Tis with full-cover water blocks and a custom vbios. He's got the money to spend on this hobby and has a lot of knowledge about what he's getting. We give him shite for his multiple higher-end rigs and elaborate builds, but we're all just jealous.
It sounded more like you were trying to justify it as a sensible purchase, which led me to believe that you could be working within a budget where $100 would make a larger difference in the rest of the build. It also seemed like you have an uninformed (or outdated) opinion on AMD, and fanboyisms are annoying and harmful.
If you have a big budget, but not big enough for 2 780 Tis, right now the best performance/dollar is indisputably 2 R9-290's (non-x) in crossfire, especially water-cooled.
I assume this is not all for 1080p...

I'm going premium for each part, sorry for the confusion. I also have nothing against AMD, I just tend to prefer Nvidia the same way someone might prefer BMW to Mercedes and vice versa.
I can afford an SLI 780ti setup, but wouldn't need anything close to that. I'm not going to be using multiple monitors or gaming at 4k resolution. That's why I'm looking for just a single GPU and also want to get the best one out there.
I've also been looking into water-cooling more and checking out sites like FrozenCPU and AVADirect so I still haven't decided not to go with water-cooling. At the very least I'll probably go with a single closed loop for the CPU.
My current monitor is 1080p but that's also something else I'm planning on upgrading.
And now that you've mentioned it, maybe I should just try to get Coyote to do a build for me?

Ilikelsutoo also has a badass custom loop. I used to have one as well.
throw this shite under a custom loop. Personally, I'd buy a 3930k off ebay, along with the 290x.

Anyone of us can do a big budget build for you (I even had some in my guide before I decided to remove sample builds). Haven't seen him post here in a little while.
If you are on the fence about custom loops, a kit provides an excellent user-friendly starting point.
I recommend this one: LINK
It will come with everything you need for a full CPU loop and obviously outperform the closed loop options, but it also has the added bonus of being easily upgradeable to add a GPU to the loop. All you'd need is a GPU block, two additional fittings (and maybe more tubing). The pump already has more than enough power to handle the extra GPU block (and another radiator or block or two), and that 360 rad would be fine for a GPU and CPU. I've done more with less.

Funny you should mention that because I've been seriously considering this:
Link
So the kit would be fully installed and I'd just have to add my components. I guess I could also contact them to see about adding in the parts required for the GPU too. That would give me my case, a fully installed water-cooling kit, and a PSU. Sounds like it might be a good idea.
Posted on 4/29/14 at 1:59 am to Tom288
It doesn't look like it comes with a PSU (which is a good thing, IMO. I would want to choose my own PSU).

Its an option at the bottom of the page with 4 selections including a Corsair AX.

yeah man. Had some houses destroyed just down the road, but we're fine.

We had one destroy a neighborhood just southeast of auburn, I live on the north side. Stay safe Bruce, round 2 is coming this evening.
