How does this cheap steambox look? LINK

Some of those prices are what I can get them used. This will be used as an HTPC/LAN/big screen build. No OC'ing and whisper quiet (That's why I went with the noctua cooler)

What GPU?

With the rise in iTX cases, im selling almost all my APU Steam boxes and converting to CPU/GPU builds. The main reason I went APU was because iTX cases small enough to house a dedicated GPU still had been too big. Things are changing now.

Everytime I used to link that CPU for ITX builds you would tell me an i3 would be better so I am doing the same to you just to be a dick.

Why in the world would an i3 be a better choice?

4 physical cores to 2 physical? I don't care about virtual cores when games is involved.

I said the same thing but Blue told me like 25 times on here that I would be better off getting an i3 which not only is 2 physical cores less but would be more expensive for the CPU and mobo combo.

Blue

Do not purchase that MOBO though. A75 and the early versions of that board caught fire.

I have the ASRock A85X for sale on Amazon ATM for $79.99. I accidentally listed as refurbished instead of used and can't change it back. Could easily fix but whats the point.

If I could find an ivy or newer i3 for under $100 I would.

I3 is superior than the 750k in most game performances.

Correct, the higher IPC per core will show a performance increase for games using under 4 cores. Source Engine games and most Triple AAA titles want 4 cores now, making the 750K the better choice.

They almost break even but moving forward i'll rather those 4 physical cores.

Coyote, I'm interested in the mobo. Does it have WiFi or Bluetooth?

Nope, but I have the USB dongles to send.

I just sold my MSI FM2 A85 iTX which had BT/WiFi for $60 bucks. That board was loaded with features but didn't OC worth a damn. Reason I purchased that ASRock, it OCs well.

EDT:
I actually purchased the new 7850K Kaveri and a Gigabtye A88X FM2+ iTX for my tiny little Lian Li. That thing will go back to doing nothing as the GF's desktop computer. Only reason I'm buying is because I love my little Lian Li case so much, I want something in it.

Has anyone else been following this GTX 750 Ti bullshtt?

A few sites are claiming it to be a 28nm process Maxwell card.

1. They will not release a new arcutiture like their Maxwell with a low end card. The 8800 and GTX 285 days are done with, I hope.

2. Damn 3 series in a row with damn 28nm process? WTF

Dirty console peasant checking in.

Can one of you guys give me a ball park number on what it would cost to build something to play DayZ? I'm not asking for a detailed component list, just off the top number. Budget isn't really a concern but I also want to be practical about it. I don't want to buy the most expensive stuff just because.

I have a 27" 1440 monitor I use with my laptop that I plan on using. I know gaming in 1440 will drive my cost up but it's probably worth it. It's hard to go back to 1080 when I'm just doing regular stuff so I imagine it's an even bigger jump in gaming.

To be honest, I game with DayZ at 1440p on a single 7970, and performance is poor regardless of how much I raise or lower my settings. But AMD cards are not an option because of the mining frenzy, so the Nvidia equivalent would be a GTX 770 or higher. I'm sure you can run it with something cheaper, but I have no clue how terrible/same it would be. There's no rhyme or reason to the shittiness of the Arma engine.

Do you plan on playing current and future Triple A titles as well? I wouldn't recommend a build just for DayZ. The game is going to get old faster than your parts will.

I imagine a DayZ-capable machine (for 1440p) would cost around $600-700, maybe less. No eye candy for other Triple A titles. If you're used to console graphics, it will still be a significant improvement.

But if you actually have a big budget in mind and want to get the most out of 1440p, let me know. I could throw several build types out there, but if you really just want a box that plays DayZ, 1440p isn't going to impress you all that much. I mean, the game looks like garbage at any resolution, so I reckon even a $400-500 build would at least run it just fine. Since you're normally a console player, 30fps shouldn't be an issue. Hell, even I don't mind running it at 30fps. Just doesn't matter a whole lot in this particular game.
