How exactly do i use XMP and what does is specifically do..
It's essentially an idiot-proof way to set your RAM's basic specs without messing anything up. In theory, it is supposed to let you just install RAM, boot to Windows, and everything would be running at the correct speed assuming the RAM and mobo were XMP compatible, but usually you have to go into the bios and turn it on anyway. Your CPU's internal memory controller defaults to 1600, so a true 1600MHz module would show up as 1600 by default. More commonly, it will be 1333 because memory manufacturers like to sell the same modules with different rated speeds and different heat spreaders (they cherry-pick the ones that easily run at 1600MHz with specific timings and voltage, then others that can clock even higher). It's not a big deal. It just means you have to manually tell your motherboard what your RAM can do.
Go to your bios and navigate to OC Tweaker. Scroll down to look for "Load XMP Setting". Choose "Profile 1" as that's usually the profile with the default rated timings. Save, exit, you're done.

I am so close to ordering a 7990 and a Korean IPS but that would be silly with the 9000s around the corner.
I keep wanting to grab a 7970 but am also waiting for the new line. It's so tempting but I will want the new ones as soon as they show up.

You guys just wait. 9 years from now when I'm finally done with school and residency and making actual money, I'll blow all of you out of the water.

Pretty normal score. Stock GHz edition 7970 and a stock AMD 8350 (that's where your physics score comes from).
Go look on the previous page with my score. I have two of the same card you're using. And go ahead and take a glance at the overclocks I have on them.

How much do you guys check for driver updates for your motherboards? I updated them all when i built it but is it that important to keep updating them? I kind of feel like it isn't worth bothering with unless it has an updated feature I need.
eta: hoping to start overclocking my cpu this weekend.

im of the if it aint broke dont fix it variety when it comes to motherboard updates. windows will find a lot of them as "optional" and unless i know it improves performance somewhere i need it - i hide the update.

I've been closing watching Z87 Mpower audio driver updates. Something's weird between it and my regular speakers. There's an audible pop (coming from the center channel I believe) when it starts a sound in Windows, like when you click into a folder in windows explorer. Sometimes it stops after a reboot. Haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what's causing it, and I always forget about it. When I uninstall the realtek drivers and let windows install its own drivers, the problem goes away, but audio is quieter because it doesn't seem to make use of the integrated amplifier.

Windows hasn't even alerted me. I know there is a new bios update for me out there but it doesn't have anything I need.

There's a new bios for the MPower but no notes on it. That's annoying. It literally says "Update BIOS module." Thanks...
