Cases are by far the most personal preference based part of a build. As long as the chosen case doesn’t objectively suck, it comes down to size and what you’re willing to pay as a premium for aesthetics.

Agreed.
Not that it matters all that much but I do like the Lian LI Lancool III setup. I watched a few builds on youtube with the Lancool II and it looks like they improved it a bit.

Just looked at the list, and please don’t spend $1,600 on a 4080S

I didn't notice this earlier, but yeah.
Best Buy has 4090's in stock for $200 more.
Newegg has this 4080S in stock right now. Its not pretty, but its a 4080S.
$1149

I already got one for $1029 from Best Buy (mentioned earlier in thread)
Just put it on the list for accuracy

Reading about boot times. Why in the world would it take a 7800X3D 40+ seconds to boot? My 9900K is on desktop in 16.5 seconds. People are saying it's just an AM5 thing. That seems insane to me

Yeah, memory training nonsense. It’s been discussed a fair bit on here.

I've been reading about this. Some board manufacturers have updated BIOS to cut down boot time. Also, some claim the memory frequency was an issue but I can't find anything current saying that this is still an issue.

Seems like enabling Memory Context Restore helps a lot. Seen it mentioned a bunch

Quirks like this are why, as tempting as it was, I decided to skip first gen AM5. The second iteration of boards and processors on each chipset tend to be much more smooth and refined. Not that AM5 has been bad by any stretch, but I don’t love paying a premium to deal with growing pains.

When is 2nd Gen supposed to come out?
Posted on 2/7/24 at 3:44 pm to Carson123987
Takes my 7700X about 5 seconds. Update your bios. It only memory trains once unless you change a bunch of things/reset it.
AM5 growing pains haven't been a thing for quite awhile now, mid '23 or so. You're gonna have to really make sure you're reading CURRENT stuff only, it's very different since the big memory update back in October.

Likely within the next 3-6 months, but x3D generally take longer.
There’s nothing wrong with jumping in now. There’s always something new around the bend. As UH said, it’s gotten much better, even if there are some settings tweaks you might need to do to unfrick the quirkiness.

Ordered everything for the new build, should all be here Thursday...except for the 7800X3D. Had to get my sister to snag me the bundle at Microcenter in Houston. After selling the mobo and ram, I'm looking at $260 all in for the CPU. Just need her to ship to me

That would have been a struggle for me. Might have been an eight hour road trip kinda day for me

My little sister lives in Houston, so while I've never asked, I do at least have the option

So I'm looking for a 1440p 60hz monitor but they cost just as much as 120 or 144. But how does gaming at 60hz look on 120/144?

Like 60hz
You can change your display settings to limit to 60hz if you wanted… you could also change game settings to frame limit the game at 60fps.

Like Gent said, it's identical, at least as long as you have Gsync/Freesync active, which you should. Gets a bit more complicated, otherwise.
