Carson,

You get this up and running? I'm looking for your input on the 7800X3D, X670E Tomahawk combo. I want this too. My future resides in your hands.

The thing I’m holding onto is that while I think a 4090 could keep me above 100fps at 1440p ultrawide with RT, a 4080S can’t. And the next card I buy, I want it to last me I make the leap to 5k/2k in a few years. I just don’t think a 4080S is powerful enough to swing that.

Everything's here but the CPU. It will be here tomorrow.

I made some changes though. New build is:

I have one standoff on the case that is not lining up with the rest on the mobo. It's close enough to where it looks lined up, but the screw wont catch. I think I can get it but I'll need a second person to screw in while I apply enough directional force to the mobo

Nvidia is finally updating and merging its (terrible) control panel and gforce experience. It's only on beta for now, but it looks good thus far: HUB - Youtube

You may know this already but make sure none of the screws are tight before you put too much pressure on the board. Or just skip that screw.

Any reason you went X670E instead of a different one? I want it because PCIE 5 on both the the gpu and M.2, and 4 M.2 slots.

yeah, it wont screw with 0 other screws in. There's a standoff in the center that is just a filled stud and doesn't get a screw, it's just there for alignment. With only that that slotted in, I still can't start the screw in question

I agree. I would loosen them all up and then lightly try the offending screw again to see if that little bit of wiggle is enough. But if not, like you said, I would just say frick it and skip that screw. No reason to torque your board like that over a single mounting screw.

ETA: *reads subsequent post* Yeah, frick that screw. Just leave it out.

Curious if you were able to build yet? I ordered the 7800X3D and X670E Tomahawk this weekend. Should all be here by Wednesday, with the 4080S scheduled for today.

I plan to do mine this weekend.

What do y'all think of this bundle at Microcenter? 7800X3D + Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX + Gskill Flare 32gb DDR5 6000 for $470?

The CPU is going for around $350 by itself. So you are getting a decent mobo and 32gb of good ram for $120. Definitely worth it.

I can't speak to how good/bad the MB is, but just that CPU and MB on the open market is like $550. Adding RAM, say another 100-115. So, yeah, seem like a good deal.

Built it right before leaving for Europe. Everything went smoothly but I didn’t get to play much - just a few rounds of warzone

Yes. Amsterdam, then Bruges, then London. Be back Sunday. I’ll post pics.

It was my first time building a pc 100% from scratch, so I have to admit, it was quite a rush when I hit that power button. Everything else I’ve done was me just swapping out parts here and there in an existing build.

Noticed last night while planning my upgrade that I've gathered quite a bit of dust in a few places.

What's the best/most effective way to get this stuff out?

A lot of people frown upon the canned air approach but I just don't know how else to do it.

Depends on where you’re noticing the dust. Different areas call for different tactics.

So, I saw some on fans. I'll wipe that down with a cloth. Anything with dust settled on it, I'll also wipe.

The main concern is the heatsinks/rads. I'm worried that the GPU rads have a small buildup and the CPU cooler rads have some. Can I canned air blow those out?
