Ah yeah I was wondering where the GPU was.
I still plan on grabbing a 7900XT. Unless I decide to grab a 4K monitor for my ailing one and then it's the XTX.

The day that it does that shite is the day I get a new monitor.

In a constant, "are you a human" loop. Can't see what you have.
Not that my opinion would be all that relevant.

I just got my Phanteks Nv7 case in and it is fricking massive and heavy.
But it’s so sleek. I love Phanteks design.

I probably would have made some different choices, but that comes down to aesthetics. The one thing I would have done differently is that I would have gone with a 1TB OS drive and then the 2TB drive (or two, if I needed the space). With as fricky as OS are getting, I'm getting to the point that I would rather keep as little as possible on my boot/OS drive. Hell, I would probably do a 500gb instead if the relative value wasn't so awful. But regardless, I want to be able to wipe and reinstall my boot drive with as little pain and annoyance as possible these days, so I just wouldn't have a use for that much space on it. Rather just save the money there and spend it on a third drive.

It's about that time for sure. I need a 4K monitor for real editing anyways right?
I'm kind of kicking myself for not grabbing that 42" C2 for $650 and just making it work. Since I mount flush on the wall I do get an extra foot or two of distance versus on a desk.
At the end of the day they're so thin and borderless the actual footprint of 36x21 isn't all that bad. Of course I'm also trying to talk myself into it.

No doubt about the boot drive- I have a 250gb WD Black 4.0 m.2 I'm reusing for my OS. I think it will all come together with a cool white/silver aesthetic rather than going with the straight-up all white. I'll post pics when I'm done, but it will be a couple of weeks. I want to build it with my nephew who is really into computers. He's really excited about it and I think it will be a cool bonding experience.

I seriously considered that case as well! I went with the flow because I got a sweeeeeeet deal on a return that also had a white cooler master vertical gpu bracket in it that wasn't removed by whoever returned it. Do I feel a little guilty about it? Sure. Guilty enough to return it to microcenter? Not a chance.

Then I withdraw any and all objections

EA produces some of the most un-optimized PC games I have ever seen.
Madden and Jedi Fallen Order AND Survivor BOTH cause my 5700x to instantly spike to 90 degrees C in FREAKING MENUS!!!!
No other games I have do this to my PC - NONE.
I've literally had to fix my CPU to 4.0 GHz and limit voltage to keep the temps in the 80s when playing those freaking EA titles.
NO OTHER GAMES I HAVE DO THIS - such a big pile of shite.

While those games aren’t optimized, the menu issue is unrelated and usually caused by not capping frame rate in the menu, which causes CPU load to spike. I globally cap my frame rate to make sure Gsync doesn’t run into issues, so I rarely have runaway CPU temps, but some games, including Jedi Survivor, annoy the piss out of me that there’s nowhere in the menu to “rest” your components, usually because the menu is just superimposed on the screen while it continued to render the game world behind it. And it’s doubly worse for Survivor because you can’t save at will. A week or so ago, I found myself needing to get up right then, but I was in the middle of a puzzle far away from a meditation point. Literally just had to walk away from the menu letting my PC pull over 500w for over an hour while I went take care of what I needed to.

TBF, I have a 144 limit on frames and it still gets very warm on start up on some games.
Like 80 plus during start up and mid 50's during gaming.
Come to think of it. It's all games.
AM5 cpu's need to be tamed, I guess.

Remind me what cooler you have?

Although, the only games I play are sims 3,4 and Cyberpunk in short intervals.

Great cooler, but air is always going to spike high. Just doesn’t have the thermal soaking capacity of water. So even though your chip isn’t high wattage, later gen AMD chips are designed with a tjmax of 90c, so it will by design spike very high without relief if you can’t soak it. Nothing to worry about, though. That’s how they designed the power curve.

I cleaned my case, updated my BIOS to the latest version, re-did my PBO2/CO settings, and still can't get the 5700x to cool properly when playing EA titles...
Its maddening. Also set a global FPS limit in NVIDIA Control, and that didn't help it at all
So I decided to manually set the thermal throttle limit from auto (90 degrees for the 5700x) to 83 degrees in the BIOS, and thats worked.
I didn't want to set the 5700x to ECO-mode, and didn't want to manually set the frequency and voltage.
Just maddening that this CPU always finds a way to stay cool in ANYTHING but EA games

Come on in, the water’s fine

Well, I'm a dumbass and forgot that I turned off the 144 limiter when doing benchmarks.
Start-up screens are also now in the 50's. The only exception is Sims 4. It gets up to mid 60's during loading.
