I have the eluktronics prometheus from last year, and while Its nice for a laptop. I'd just wait to game until I got to my desktop.
I'm the opposite. I have a nice dual monitor set up and barely use it.

To jump from a 4070 to 4080 it's $500 and then another $500 to jump from a 4080 to 4090.
Woof, that's rough
And the 4070 is a huge disappointment. I'd just find a previous gen with a 3080 or 3080ti honestly
I'd honestly consider grabbing Intel's next gen arc card if their prices stay under 400.

7900XT down to $799.

I'll be curious to see if that moves the needle. If I'm throwing a dart, I think the 7900xt needs to get down to around $700 before people get excited about it. Most people consider the 4070ti to be woefully overpriced, and you can find that for $799 on occasion these days. This generation releases from both companies have been an embarrassment. Here's to hoping that they make some interesting moves during the mid-cycle refresh around the end of this year.

Yeah and it gets absolutely smashed by it. Nvidia will have to do something with the 4070ti and 4080 as they'll just sit more and more on shelves while AMD brings their prices down.

Unless I'm misremembering, the 7900xt beats the 4070ti in raster by about 10% and loses to the 4070ti in RT by about 25%. Both are shite cards for $800; because of the feature set, the market will buy a 4070ti over a 7900xt at the same price point.
Prices need to come down on the 4070ti, the 4080, the 7900xt, and the 7900xtx. The only card currently released that is immune to price pressure is the 4090, and that's simply because it is far and away the most powerful card released thus far in this generation. It's still a shite value, but that's to be expected of halo cards. Everything else this gen fricking sucks.

Haha I disagree. No one really cares about RT other than Nvidia fanboys because they lose everywhere else. It's so annoying when they go to that excuse when the community doesn't give a shite about RT at all but if you're less powerful and all you got to go anymore have at it. Linus covered this the other day switching to his all AMD setup and talking about how RT just isn't remotely worth it, never uses it, and said that's the majority of the communities feeling so spare us the 2020 Nvidia PR talk please. No one is paying $100+ for less performance just to get a little better RT, no one.
Those days are long gone.
Now AMD is right there with Nvidia for features and often times better. I think you're kinda dated these days with your glasses on.
$799 is a good spot for it, Nvidia needs to drop below though for sure. Then again maybe they like being the worst selling cards and sitting on shelves for months.
Oh and don't forget the 12GB of vram Nvidia continues to shite out. I member when people made excuses for all the 8GB 3000 series cards.

This whole pc building bidness is jank. First time in several years, I got it done, but frick. There's a reason I give old hardware away when homey builds it for me.

I get fricking annoyed when I see "raster" and "RT" but yet they mean different things
I'm a fricking boomer PCer and I'm barely 30

RT really has no business ever being mentioned on its own. It's such a mediocre feature anymore that many games still don't utilize at all and the ones that do aren't worth the performance hit. So very few people actually use it in the real world it's just fanboy chatter at this point. But when AMD consistently beats them at raster I guess you have to cling to something.
It's about equal to the real world use case of DLSS vs FSR being discernible side by side, you can't pick out which is which blind. The notion there is some huge difference between them to sway a purchase towards spending more money (for less performance) is hilarious and so misguided.

Very nice. You can get the 7700x for $299 right now on Amazon, excellent price to performance.
Posted on 3/4/23 at 1:24 am to UltimateHog
I already bought it.
My 1080ti holds me back, but it's normal for a 7 year old card.
That was my benchmark. Not bad for air cooling. Holding 5600 for the most part. Did have some dips tho.

Yeah I knew that was just stating the current deal on Amazon.
Hell it's been tempting for me versus waiting for the 7800x3d.

Your projecting your fanboyism is rampant, as always. My personal beliefs are irrelevant: the market has spoken loud and clear, and it's willing to pay about a 20% premium for an Nvidia product equal in raster to an AMD product. Whether that's because of RT, DLSS, stability, studio features, etc, that's simply a fact, and is illustrated by the further fact that AMD has been hemorrhaging GPU market share for the last several years.
I've spent the last few months saying all of this year's releases have been dogshit. You've spent the last few months saying that Nvidia is terrible and that AMD has released cards that were god's gift to gamers, with lots of

And what's actually happened? Everything except the halo 4090 is sitting on shelves collecting dust, just as they should, because they all fricking suck from a price to performance perspective. But sure, I'm the fanboy

Figures. Everything goes on sale after I buy it.
Of course, Amazon doesn't do price matches after sale.
And ya, the 7800x3d, wasn't gonna do me any good at this time. I might get the 8800x3d or w/e when I have a better card.

Guilty as charged. Although, a 7900x around 700 would be very tempting. It's still 100 too high at 799.

Jesus this reads like Nvidia marketing material for mediocre features no one uses or the competitor offers the same. Equal in raster? Where? Nvidia wishes for 2 gens that were the case.

Ignorance is bliss. Nvidia down 42% in GPU sales last quarter. Sent investors into an absolute rage how bad the GPU division has been doing. But please tell me more about stock related info.

I don't even think I've talked about the gpu's really at all. Maybe you are confusing cpu's or grasping.

Yeah but they were always going to get more and more discounted after the 3D drop.
