AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 versus AMD Radeon R9 Fury
quote:
Do you have an AMD Radeon R9 Fury based video card and want to know if AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 at a lesser price is a performance upgrade? Do you want to know if architecturally AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 is faster than AMD Radeon R9 Fury? This follow-up performance review should answer those questions.
quote:
It is clear that AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 has improved upon AMD Radeon R9 Fury performance a great deal, despite having the same number of Compute Units, Stream Processors, ROPs and Texture Units, and less memory bandwidth. The architecture changes actually bring about real tangible performance improvements in games. AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 allows a high level of 1440p gameplay experience where AMD Radeon R9 Fury did not.
If you are running an AMD Radeon R9 Fury graphics card the AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 is most definitely an upgrade. For less money than you paid for AMD Radeon R9 Fury you can get performance that is up to 35% faster and allows you to play the latest games at high settings at 1440p. It’s the kind of percentage increase in performance we look for when upgrading from one GPU to the next.

I really don't want a blower card though and if they're like the 64 they are loud even at idle.
So I either flip it and hope to get AIB version or keep it then sell after securing AIB.

Kyle has really flipped the script on AMD recently. Someone has shown him the money

Still in love with my R9 Fury, going to wait at least one more generation.
Also got my Fury for $200.

Not only that but flashing the Vega64 bios makes Vega56 just 2% slower than Vega64. LINK
quote:
By increasing the frequency by 75 MHz the modder noticed that the card was only 2% slower than reference RX Vega 64.
Furthermore, it was proven that overclocked RX Vega 56 at 1650 MHz (core) 2200 MHz (memory) actually surpasses 64 at default clocks.
If those results are correct then RX Vega 56 may become even more popular thanks to this simple mod. Of course, such modifications will void your warranty, but since the RX Vega series have two BIOSes, this mod is almost fool-proof.

Nice. Been one of my favorite things about AMD cards even back in the ATI days. My first ever overclock was flashing a Radeon 9800 Pro to 9800 XT and then overclocking it even further, all on stock cooling.

Anyone else did a LSUToo by putting their prized systems on top their mattress before evacuating?

Glad you're OK. I forgot you were living in that area for work. Hopefully the rig survived.

I'm back in LA right now, our office is closed until after Labor Day.
I know my complex flooded, but not sure how high. I'm on the first floor. So thinking at minimal we lost my TV, PS4 Pro, Router, mattress and some random shtt. Friday morning before leaving to come back home I unplugged and placed all electronics on a table. I'm hoping the water did not reach that point yet.
But that is nothing compared to the 3 purses the SO bought for her birthday around the 2nd week of August. Praying I put those MFers up high. Sort of remember doing it but then IDK. Didn't believe flood waters would reach over knee high.
The terrible part is that we just gave our 30day notice because we are moving into a 2BR apartment due to the SO taking some classes here. We stay here 4-5days a week and go home on weekends.
Well the NEW apartment might be flooded. Soo, wtf
Rigs at the house safe and sound. Wanted to GIVE ME a reason to come home every weekend. Purchased a gaming laptop plus Switch and PS4 for anything else.
Is it hard to receive full reimbursement of personal property like electronics, clothes, handbags, etc?

PCPer - New GPU Launch, New Attempt to Unlock Stuff
OG Post from ChipHell Forums

OG Post from ChipHell Forums
quote:
Because so many different video cards are made from a handful of chip designs, there is a group of people who like to see whether a lower-end SKU can be unlocked to behave like a higher-end one. In this case, kdtree on the ChipHell forums has apparently flashed the new AMD RX Vega 56 with the vBIOS from an AMD RX Vega 64. Personally, I would find that a little sketchy, given the difference in stream processor count, but they’re the one with the graphics card.
quote:
Turns out, it did something, but it did not magically create an RX Vega 64. The extra 512 shaders are probably disabled at the hardware level, such as with a laser. Your first reaction is probably “well, of course it is...” but, if you remember Polaris, users have software-modified 4GB cards into 8GB cards... so there is some precedence for “maybe AMD put more on the card than they said on the box”.
Oh right, so what did it do? It apparently gave the card a significant overclock. It’s hard to tell under the watermark, but the modified Vega 56 was just a percent or so away from the Vega 64 on 3DMark. I’m guessing a conventional overclock might do the same, but who knows.

Hola computer gurus, I'm trying to either update my old computer or acquire enough pieces to build a new rig. I was looking at the geforce 1060 6gb but it seems they are pretty price inflated right now. What would be a good price to pick one up at and should at I look toward ebay? I'm not looking to spend a whole lot and probably would piece this thing together over time since I have twins now and money is not as free flowing now.
If I go with building a new rig I was looking at the 1060 with a ryzen 3 1200 and overclocking it, and a 8gb stick of ram. Any advice?

That's why I don't ask for build advice from you...remember to check your wires when building a computer bro

Remember that I can post screenshots of you asking me about builds bro.

I had some ITX parts left over that I could have hooked you up with for a decent prize, but I just sold them today.
I can look around and try to find you a 3770k and mobo for a better price then the r3 1200, and the 3770k shits on the 1200.
The video card on the other hand will be tough. I'll stay on the lookout for one of those too

If you're talking about contents insurance, it's definitely helpful to have photos and receipts. If you're talking about FEMA assistance or whatever, not happening.

Sickening.
Lost my whole console gaming situation and fairly new TV. Along with other shtt. Purchased the Pro just for the fckking apartment too.
Expected it to flood when I left at 3:00AM last Friday. Put everything up off floor to about waist height. Not this BS of 5' to 6'.

That really sucks. Amazing how much damage some shitty (literally) water can do in a short time.
