Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
I was actually right the whole time, 1080 performance for a bit cheaper. Ho hum.

I thought the air cooled 64 was $599.
EDIT: Or I guess demand is still fricking up the pricing and availability.

Yeah the demand/availability has driven them up by hundreds.
Only for about 5 minutes at 8am on launch day could you get one for $499. Marked up since.
Like PCGamer said today, it'll get there again, but who knows how long it will take:

Eventually things will sort themselves out and we'll have standalone Vega 64 cards priced at $499, or even lower, but whether that will be in the next week or two, or months in the future, is impossible to say.

Mining has fricked everything up.

No one pumped about 4C/8T @ 4.2Ghz 15W mobile CPUs?

I read the anandtech article yesterday morning. Interested in seeing their single threaded performance for everyday tasks. Excited to see some reviews when they release.

I just bought a gaming notebook just for my apartment here in Texas during the week. Really impressed by this Dell Inspiron w/ i7 7700HQ / 1050 Ti. Using it mainly for indie games, D3 and PoE.
I'm hoping a refresh comes out while im inside my 30day return at Best Buy.
What is L4 cache? Serious question. What did I miss?

8th Gen Kaby Lake Refresh
quote:
The only differences between the Core i7 and Core i5 designs will be in cache size (Core i5 has 6MB, Core i7 has 8MB) and the clock speeds of the processors. All of them feature four true Kaby Lake cores with HyperThreading enabled to support 8 simultaneous threads in a notebook. Dual channel memory capable of speeds of 2400 MHz in DDR4 and 2133 MHz in LPDDR3 remain. The integrated graphics portion offers the same performance as the 7th generation designs, though the branding has moved from Intel HD Graphics to Intel UHD Graphics. Because Ultra.

Link to that reaching that at that wattage? Not calling you a liar, but it would be interesting for my bro who's looking for a lappy.
Vega 56 undervolting benchmarks put it close to the 64 when it does the same.
Can def tell that it's power limited.
This is for UH and others looking at vega.
I'd say their geometry output in real-world conditions continue. Fury/x all over again.

Are you talking about the 15w Intel mobile CPUs? They're not out yet, but go to anandtech and you'll see the article on the front page

Look at link, we don't have benchmarks yet.
I don't believe it but it's what's being advertised. We do have 15W 3.3GHz chips on mobile. Also it could be a 2 core thing, Intel's Turbo Boost 3.0. meaning not all 4 cores boost to 4.2 but the best 2.

I see. I'll just wait for reviews I guess. He wants something that will play FFXI easily and doesn't drain much power.
That or the new APU by AMD. Won't take much graphics, just sipping power while not running shitty.

I'll probably go Vega 56 AIB when they launch.
If I can ever find the $699 64 water cooled I'd grab it today otherwise I'll go 56 by then.

With all this mining shite, That 980ti is feeling better and better.
Though you still haven't shipped me that other cooler :)

Dude for $200, you got a deal. Even with the jacked up wire to blower.
I wish I still had that card esp since I wanted a spare rig recently. Oh well, enjoy.

It's good to be making NAND right now, not so good to be buying
quote:
DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports that the NAND Flash market continued to experience tight supply in the second quarter. As a result, contract prices of various lines of NAND Flash products rose by 3% to 10% from the first quarter despite the seasonal headwinds. Going forward, NAND Flash suppliers are expected to post excellent revenue results in the third quarter due to small increases in contract prices of mobile products (i.e. eMMC and UFS) and SSDs. On the whole, 2017 will be a bumper year for the industry.

A Quick Look At The High Bandwidth Cache Controller On AMD’s Radeon RX Vega

quote:
AMD’s Vega GPU architecture brings many notable features to the table, but the one to find its way into Radeon chief Raja Koduri’s heart is HBCC – or “high-bandwidth cache controller”. In this article, we’re going to take a look at what HBCC is, why it offers no benefit right this moment, and talk about what it could offer in the future.
quote:
But first, what is HBCC?
In a nutshell, HBCC is, as its “high-bandwidth cache controller” name gives away, a complement to the framebuffer (or “high-bandwidth cache” as AMD now calls it) that will treat the VRAM as a last-level cache, and some system memory as VRAM. If a resource is requested by the GPU, but it’s not currently in video memory, the memory pages relating to the data will be pulled in to Vega’s HBC (framebuffer) for quicker access, while unused pages will be flushed out.
In time, we could see application developers utilize this mechanic to maximize GPU efficiency in huge workloads. The pool of data that the Radeon Software will create is called the “HBCC Memory Segment” (HMS), and on our 32GB test PC, the minimum value that could be selected was ~11GB (max was ~24GB).
quote:
HBCC is designed to be intelligent in how it manages the data, although at this point, it’s not entirely clear how data is handled today, or how it will be handled in the future. AMD talked at length about game developers who were in love with the idea of HBCC, so it could be that those same developers will have their own ideas on how to maximize the returns of HBCC. If it were possible to use a BIOS that disabled one of the HBM2 dies on RX Vega, this feature could probably be better tested. Currently, having a memory-starved card is going to be the only way you’ll notice a benefit from HBCC, and for many, memory is not going to be the limitation.
