Hey guys, so I'm finally gonna pull the trigger on my mini ITX build. Still need to pick a video card - and I would also like to shave off $200 or more off the total price. Building this computer for these 2 purposes: Photo editing (adobe lightroom), work (excel modeling)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You don't need that nice of a PSU, so that would save you some money. If you're not going to be doing any OCs or anything, you can save a good bit by going with a non-K CPU and much cheaper mobo

There's a few places you could save money as barracuda mentioned. If you're only using photo editing and excel software, you could probably further reduce the processor to an i3 or even the Pentium. The Pentium is pretty much the same as the i3, but with a less capable integrated graphics, which wouldn't be a problem since you're getting a gfx card. You could also shave a few dollars by looking at 2400-3000 MHz RAM.

Are you sure you're not planning on gaming, because some of your components seem good for gaming .

I'll have steam and play some stuff like Mark of the Ninja, Braid, etc. I like super simple indie games.

I would recommend Ryzen in this situation...ignore the i3 that thing is dead now.

Grab yourself a Ryzen 5 1400 for $159 and have 4 cores 8 threads still, there is even a combo with a Gigabyte AB350 Gaming motherboard for $259 total.

It is phenomenal bang for your buck, nothing comes close.

Link?

Will it work for a mini-ITX? Trying these out on pcpartpicker but I keep getting warnings that the parts aren't compatible.

Since it's not itx, it doesn't really work. It is a great value though

What socket motherboard are you selecting? Make sure it is an AM4. Using pcpartpicker should recommend a few mini-ITX boards. I saw a few on the list just now. Mini-ITX boards just came out for Ryzen, I believe.

Looking at the i5-6500 3.2 GHz and the MSI B250I Pro Mini ITX LGA 1151. Gonna start looking at video cards tomorrow.

shite I may need to scrap this and start over

Is mini-ITX your primary board preference? Ryzen is great, but it looks like your choices are limited for the mini-ITX as they seem to mostly be sold out.

Yes, if you switch CPUs from Intel to AMD, you will have to adjust your motherboard.

Good luck. Worst possible time to buy anything middle tiered and better since the prices are so inflated

Yea everything is super inflated. You think prices will come down anytime soon?

Been sitting on this build for a while but prices keep going up on everything it seems

Yes it is, there are quite a few out for Ryzen now. That specific combo no, obviously.

Processor 6c/12t $199

Gigabyte mini itx mobo $113

OC it just a bit, and you'll have the same performance as a 6600K in gaming with 2 extra cores and 8 more threads.

GPU wise yeah, good luck.

Yeah GPU options pretty much put you at either a newer NVIDIA or an older AMD.

I have a couple of Strix GTX 970's that are sitting around, they are in the same ball park as the 1060, not quite as strong.

LINK

oops I didn't see the mini part.

Used founders edition 1080gtx for 400$. Would SlI to my 1st 1080. Or wait and just get a 1080ti? I read somewhere, a TI is 35% more powerful than a regular 1080

That CPU and mobo would be more expensive then a 6600 and h110 Mobo. The itx form factor sucks right now for the am4 platform
