Well there was a convo we had about a year ago when I was first bringing up the surging stock, it was about the polaris launch and I was discussing how they are attacking the mid range market because that is where 80%ish of all GPU sales lie and you kind of disagreed and still didn't necessarily like what AMD was doing and I was refuting or explaining why I thought they were doing exactly what they needed to do. It was along those lines.

Yea I remember but not the specifics. We are probably talking about two different things. The mid-range is where profits are but it won't bring down our shtty nVidia prices for top in and you need top end for 4K.

. Which for now, between Ryzen, Threadripper, and Epyc, they're in a good spot for awhile to expand profitability. If it holds true that they are able to gain around 20% of the server market share over the next year or so, then you're talking long term sustainability off the back of that alone.

Agree.

They can now make themselves back in the enterprise, datacenter and gaming markets with those lines of CPUs. Before they became nearly non-existed in enterprise and datacenter.

Can someone confirm and post a link to where AMD's Raja said "VEGA FE is great for development and 4K gaming"?

Trying to find it but can't search much at work.

Edt: Think just on Twitter..

This was a joke. Hence why I lead with a $350 dollar power supply going bad 3 times with only 4yrs of use.

I've bitched about them before but do generally like their products and customer service.

My guess is those are produced to Gold Standard but might not meet Seasonics standard so they get sold to other vendors. Let me find the OCN write up about this, because as I know you know, we really only have 3-4 manufactures and everything else is licensed.

This mining craze makes it extremely difficult to build another gaming rig.

Jesus. Even RAM is retarded again, $100 for 2x8GB sticks DDR4 @ 2400.

Yep, that's exactly why I haven't bought a new GPU. I'll wait till the crash and pick up a card or two for a quarter of the price.

One good thing is that the top end market isn't being hit yet.

Might be a decent time for a 1080 Ti?

Nah. I don't play enough anymore to justify it. I'm using 7950 I schemed out of Newegg right now. Practically anything would be an upgrade at this point.

Really same here, idk why I still do upgrades. I want to love gaming again but just getting old and just rather do other things.

Yep, just burned out. No real desire to play anything. Battlegrounds about once a week, but that's about it. My PC is basically just a Plex Server now.

Interesting academic exercise:

Gamers Nexus - Vega FE vs R9 Fury X Clock for Clock Test

Also, this channel on YouTube deserves waaaaaay more subs than they have and definitely more than the most popular tech channels like Paul's Hardware, Linus, Hardware Canucks, JayzTwoCents, etc...

You named one decent one of that bunch, Hardware Canucks.

I'm a fan of PCPer, L1Tech, OCers.

But yeah I saw an article on OCN about this the same day you posted the other reddit link. Its nearly perfecting scaling

Edt: I like DF a lot too.

i like DF and PCPer also. I like my tech news to actually be technical not entertainment and every video be pretty much a commercial for what is being discussed and reviewed. HC are very guilty of it. Only thing I like on their channel really are their case reviews.

They used to be more technical.

But yeah I like the technical details on the architecture/process/standards more than benchmarks. L1Techs and PCPer talk about the actually technical details much more.

Question -

I'm looking at adding another internal hard drive....when i built this computer i built it with a 256gb or so SSD (which I use essentially for OS services only) and a 1TB internal HD for all other things

did not realize how fast a 1TB would fill up

What do you guys recommend for an additional hard drive? I don't want to replace, but plan on adding an additional.

I am looking at 7200 RPM, 4TB or higher...just not sure on which brand is best, and if 7200 RPM and 4tb would be sufficient.

Thanks
